OK so when I use the 470 ohm resistor on the the 5mm led positive got that does it matter which side I put the resistor on or it doesn't matter

The resistor needs to be on the positive leg of the LED. The positive leg is the the longer leg. If you look closely at each LED, you will notice that one leg is slightly longer than the other one. That longer leg is the positive leg, the shorter one is negative. The resistor needs to be soldered to the positive leg, but the orientation of the resistor doesn't matter. It can be facing either direction, just as long as it's connected to that positive leg. So basically, one end of that resistor needs to be soldered to that positive leg I keep mentioning, and the other end of the resistor needs to be connected to +12volts power, which is the illumination circuit in whatever swith you are working on. That other leg of the LED needs to be connected to a ground.

Thanks I need to be reassure because I thought I needed to buy 390 ohms resistor to do this set up but you said 470 ohms resistor is the best way to go for the 5mm yes

Yes, 470 ohm works best, unless they are wired in series. The 00-02 AC Control panels have the bulbs wired in series, so in that scenario you would use a 330 ohm resistor on the positive leg of the first LED, then the positive leg of the second LED is connected (through the circuit board ) to the negative leg of the first LED, then the negative leg of the second LED is connected to ground. They are basically wired in series like 2 batteries in a flashlight, but with a resistor on the first one.

Is there any thread about doing a 4x4 switch? There's threads about every set of switches, but the 4x4 switch is a mystery. Unless I'm just a crappy digger.

So my lights just went out and was curious if I can just use led strip lights instead of 5mm led bulbs figured it make things easier. Is that possible and if so would i still need a resistor? Still trying to understand the concept of resistors lol. Put a link of sample of led lights. Thamks
