Yep, the "Drone Zone" one is EXACTLY what mine sounds like on the interstate. I got the 1000 mile trip home coming tomorrow, I'm sure I'll have strong feelings about it one way or the other after that...

Look on the other thread about the J PIPE

Yeah that was a great post by Eric, lots of good info. I'd never heard of a J-pipe but I had never messed with exhaust either. My previous Tacoma was already hooked up by the previous owner. One of my bosses is in tight with a muffler shop, he's already referred a couple co-workers to them and everyone's driven away happy (and loud). I think I'll check them out next week once I'm home and discuss a J-pipe.

I done so reasrch on it already lol

I downloaded a DB Meter App from the play store

Its called Sound Meter

Use it to measure the resonance at 65 mph top gear

As I understand it you get to crushing speed top gear and measure at what RPM the resonance is the loudest.

That determines the length of J Pipe needed to cancel out the drone

This is basically noise cancelling headphones technology

I've got access to some great audio measuring tools when I get back to my home office next week. But in the meantime, here's what I got using free apps. Note that my cargo area and backseat are loaded to the gills with stuff for my summer work trip, surely affecting measurements

With dB meter:
Cruising at 70 mph, average was around 65 dB and max was around 72ish dB, tossing out readings that were higher when hitting potholes, etc.

With RTA:
See images
1st- idle
2nd- moderate acceleration from a stoplight
3rd & 4th- 70 mph on interstate, measured when cruise control added light throttle to maintain speed

So I've been on this road trip all day. Still got about 300 miles left but I'm getting a nice little break in the passenger seat. On again off again all day I've been trying to think of a good way to describe the drone, just something to keep my mind busy. I think I finally got it! With the windows down it sounds like when you blow on the top of an empty glass Coke bottle. With the windows up it sounds like Chewbacca groaning at Han Solo. At highway speed it's particularly bad between 2000 and 2500 RPMs with any throttle
