erock198 I'm doing a CB install in my truck right now I'll be posting pics soon. I'm installing in the Cd changer slot. I'll be using a Cobra 29. As for the cell phone vs CB when the poop hits fan ( ie. earthquake, hurricane....) ,the power goes out and the cell towers go down and there loved ones need help they are going to WISH they had something like a HAM and or CB radio! CB radios are like condoms it's better to have one and not need it than need it and not have one!

I have it powered out of the cd changer harness but the 29 stick iut a lot so I'm surious to see how yours works out.

OK, now I happen to be a fan of CB's as well but your argument w/r/t to cell phones and POWER is very flawed. A typical cell site has both battery and generator backup. As long as the tower is still standing, it will continue to have power for at least 3 day following the loss of commercial. It will continue with power indefinitely if the generator fuel tank is kept full. Most of the people who are responsible for keeping these towers running are very serious about their job and really function as an extension of first responders IMO.

In order to truely cripple the tower it would need to be physically destroyed, which is unfortunately not uncommon in a natural disaster. This is a flaw of traditional tower spectrum coverage. However recently a myriad of additional options have emerged, such as micro-cell technology, in-building, wifi and personal extenders solutions. Eventually coverage will become and ubiquitous component of how we build structures and this flaw will fade.

Not saying CB's aren't good for disaster survival communication I am just saying that it's not as easy as you make it sound to interrupt modern cell phone service.

To z0lt3c: You have a point I just remember the Northridge earthquake of 93 and power went out for 3 days where I lived and no cell towers were working. I know now about the backup systems. I just don't like to put all my eggs in one basket. I'm not a doomsday guy but I'm "ready" for the "BIG ONE" as they call it.

To erock198; Yeah I no longer needed the CD changer due to I changed my headunit to one with a usb (now i have my music on a 64 gig flashdrive). I cut the back of the CD changer bracket to hold the CB. I havnt finished the install yet due to I ordered a PA speaker & a 90deg PL259 connector. I'm also hooking the cb speaker to the little hidden speakers on the sides of the center console. the antenna location is yet to be found lol

I used a thru the glass antenna. I need to rtfm to tune it as well
