Member arpz on hidp posted these comparo pics, and I thought they portrayed pretty well the loss of lumens as one goes up in Kelvin temp on their HIDs.

These low beams shots are on a set of very good projectors (RX-350), with Morimoto (slightly above average Chinese bulbs) D2S bulbs, the first pic is 5000K the second is 4300K. Both pics are on iphone auto settings.

It gets progressively worse the higher temp one goes, and also once you start dropping below 4000K. The only bulbs that are an exception to this are the Osram CBI bulbs that are the first built not to lose any lumens at 5000K.

Anyway, I know that some people think they get more light with a bluer light but it's simply not the case, not in proper OEM projectors and much less in PnP kits.

@felixgun I am going 4300k for my fogs, lows and highs but they are going to be 35w each. So I am worried about melting fogs. I am glad I dont use them as often.

Why not go with the 25w ballast for fogs? Why risk it when a lot of people are getting their housings melted with 35w and 55w housings?

The low beams have a double cutoff line, one right above the other, and the highbeams are just a blob of light in the center of the vehicle track, middle of my lane only, and down low. I can't use those at all. Crazy. And I live and drive on dark country roads with lots of deer and other critters, lighting is very important....

I think I want to go with retrofits in a black housing, maybe with BG, although I am not sure he's still doing them, as the thread you posted a link to is totally quiet. The factory lights are just so big and chrome for my tastes.

So how to fix? My wife wouldn't appreciate me raiding the Lexus for the lighting.

First thing to do is return them without ever opening the box and get your money back.

Second is to decide if you want a retrofit and if so what hardware you wish to use. (read how much $ you wish to spend)

You don't have to raid your Lexus for its lighting, all Lexus and other OE projectors and associated hardware can be bought from TRS, as well as aftermarket hardware if budget is an issue.

If you're not near a retrofitter, there are many that will undertake the work at a distance, although less precise if the vehicle isn't there, long distance retros are equally effective on the road.

If you're a DIY person you can also read endlessly on hidplanet to learn and try to tackle the project yourself. Although many have successfully done it, it does require a great degree of skill, precision, and attention to detail ... and mistakes are VERY expensive.

Drop what i said and ^^^^^^this. From what i understand you can get a basic, but decent retrofit for $600-$700. Thats if you dont want to do it yourself.

I want a smoked lens look, will these housings not work with the proper lighting retrofit?

You can certainly have the lenses smoked by a professional before the retrofitter seals them back up ... just know that any tint of them is going to rob you of lumens, the darker the tint the more lumens you'll lose. It's called the Corey Hart effect.

@Soulsea I didnt see the 25w kit for the fogs. I only saw a 35w for 5202. if you see it can you post the link? I dont want to melt my fog housing if I can avoid it.
