Finally had a chance to park next to an Esky today and snap a picture. Just a comparison of the two...

Had a chance to get my bass knob molded in...

The knob wasn't place in the middle (just slightly above) because I need to add a couple switches just below it for stuff. This piece will go out and get hydro dipped sooner or later.

Looks good but doesn't match the interior. Tisk Tisk. Glad you're going to get it hydro dipped

Woah ..... so cool.

How do you "mold" it?

I want to do this just to get rid of the stupid box hole and out in Aux switches.

ABS plastic, bondo, possibly a little fiberglass, and patience...

So last year I got the Pioneer AVH-P4400BH as soon as it came out. Then a week or so later I had a chance to upgrade to the Pioneer-P8400BH for a couple bucks more. That was the top of the line NON Nav double din Pioneer sells. Well, this week I had a chance to sell my Pioneer AVH-P8400BH and get the new AVH-X8500BHS. It came out about a week ago and again, is the top of the line NON Nav double din that Pioneer carries. The biggest upgrade is the iPhone5 support via HDMI input. So everything that's on my iPhone screen, shows up on the Pioneer screen. They have all kinds of apps that work flawlessly with it, even Navigation.

I'm still playing around with putting an iPad Mini in the dash. However, to do it properly, especially with getting a quality signal from the iPad to the speakers and having everything work flawlessly, here's the list of stuff and prices you have to buy

Pioneer DEH-80PRS - $200
There's a bunch of reasons to keep a radio ing there. Still have FM/AM (without using data on iPad), keep steering wheel controls. Keep phone Bluetooth.

HRT iStreamer Outboard DAC - $200
This is to get quality output from the Mini to the radio.

Extra dash/radio bezel - $40
That way you can keep your stock one to go back to.

iPad mini wifi & 3G - $460 to $660
Personally I'd get the biggest one to hold all my music and then a bunch of movies. There's no point to have it if you can't fill it with that. Also need 3G for all the data services to work. Why else would you put it in there. I know you could do the wifi one and then get some kind of hot spot, and that's being talked about now.

and then here's where I'm stuck. I'd also lose the back up camera. To retain this, I'd need to purchase a new rear view mirror with LCD built in and the connectors to allow RCA input from the camera. That's $300. Plus I currently have my headrest wired so the output of my head unit can play on the headrest. I would completely lose that. I also have my center console RCA inputs in to my head unit, I would lose that as well. I also have the 2nd USB input from the cig charger that I would also lose.

Also, none of that includes labor on modifying/customizing the bezel. Bondo, fiberglass, paint or hydrodipping...

With all these what if's and how to's, I'm really having a hard decision doing it. In the mean time, I was able to upgrade to this years model head unit for less than $100, so it was a no brainer....

Told y'all you would be disappointed...

I wouldn't do the Ipad unless it's something custom that plays off of your HU

Actually I am NOT disappointed at all.....especially after reading all that one loses in way of compatibility.......

Also I never thought about data for am/fm.

Questions.........

You sell the old one on CL?

Link to said rear view?

This is non-navigation?

Observation...........

Looks clean and great job as always.

I wish Pioneer made the trim a matte finish so it looked more "factory".

Nathan, it looks great, but I have a question ...

Isn't there a version that has nav that way you're not completely dependent on your iPhone?

Yes. There's 2 ways I could do that.

1. I can buy a AVIC-U250 Add-on Navigation System that plugs in to my head unit for about $300.

2. Buy a Nav ready head unit for about $1,000.

However, 99% of the time I don't need Nav. I grew up here and pretty much know where everything is. However, for the times I would ever need Nav, it's really easy to just use my phone.
