Is my MPG average?

I have a 2003 Escalade with the 6.0L, AWD, and do mostly city driving.

I averaged 9.8mpg on my first tank, and second tank was a little north of 10, and I took a 2 hour trip and averaged 13.7 over that trip at an average speed of probably 55mph.

I am having a hard time getting anything about 10.3MPG, even babying the truck through town like a snail.

Is this normal? If not what can I do the increase the MPG? I realize that this truck is going to eat gas, just want to make sure its inline with whats expected

I am very light...the trick with this vehicle is slow starts, cruise at steady speed and coast to stops, if u do that and keep ur tires correctly pressured, ur numbers should mirrow mine.

I get 15/16 city and 20/21 hwy at 60, 19/20 at 65, 18/19 at 70, 17/18 at 75
I just did two 1000 mile trips from south bend in to natchitoches la and that's what i got
All in one shot 16 hrs each way... Thanks got for xm radio and the comedy channels
Of course headwind/tailwind/AC on will adjust those figure +\- 1/2mpg

I know these are accurate.. Dad has a brand new 2500 silverado and he said he couldnt get above 9 mpg, after watching how he drives, imdrove it for two,days and got 12.8 mpg... He starts fast, doesnt coast or anticipate stops..

Some folks over baby their truck which can account for lower MPGs. The torque converter can waste a lot of energy.

My 2007 LTZ avgs 14 around town and on a recent 2 hr drive out of town it did like 19 @ 70mph (5.3 4WD). Not too bad for a full size SUV.

thats pretty amazing for a denali. The awd pretty much kills any chance at good mileage. The best I've gotten was 17 on the highway, but you cant really trust the inst. avg. fuel reading. i figure i get 8-10 in the city and 15- 16 on the highway, which is pretty much inline with what I should get.

I know mine isn't an Xl but I always average no less than 14.4 MPG city/street mix during the week. The few highway trips we have done I got close to 19.5 round trip I was stoked at how much further it was compared to constantly stopping and going. And yes the tips above help a lot. I used my ulra gauge with fuel maps and throttle position and real time MPG cals for a while until I got use to driving the truck to its best fuel mileage potential. I do this in all my cars... Before doing the gauge method I was coming in around 9.7-11.2 city.highway mix for work.

The best way to gain mileage is driver habit changes. You could do all the mods in the world but you'll get the best gains learning how to drive it for the best gas mileage period.

And on road trips she pulls 18-20

I have a 2004 Yukon Xl Denali that has the 6.0L engine and I did modifications to get the best Mileage possible. I installed Pulse Plugs, they are new spark plugs on the market that cost $20 a plug but its a new design and it has a small capacitor in them to give it a bigger spark burning all the fuel introduced. I put a Cold Air K&N intake to help it breath better. I changed the plug wires to 10MM and I also changed the rims with a light weight aluminum rim with 305/40/23 rims, It has more ground friction but it seemed to help. When I travel on the highway at 65MH I get 20-21 MPG and in the city I get 15-16 MPG. Oh and recently I bought one of those tornado wind turbulence things you put in your air intake tube and that did absolutley nothing to the Mileage, I even tried the magnet on the fuel line and that did nothing. I run fuel injector cleaner through my system monthly to keep the spray good and consistant. SO 20-21 MPG on highway excpecially with an XL Im very happy. I also try to remove the third seat when not needed to reduce weight when I can.

I have an Alpine Navigation unit connected through my D310 head unit and it accuratly reads my Miles an hour. I trust that over the the GMC readout. I read the miles travelled and the gallons used and I get 22-23 on my GMC readout but off my Alpine I get 20-21 MPG which sounds more realistic. The alpine is nice because if you would happen to put on larger rims and tires and dont want to mess around with the speedo you can always trust the Nav on the alpine D310

I get about 12/15, but before the cam, supercharger, headers, torque converter, etc. I would get around 14/19 if I went easy on it.
