If you don't want a loud one go with Magnaflow. Flowmasters are just a little too loud.

you have an NBS right? I have an NNBS and just bought a magnaflow Part #12589 but still havent installed. many NNBS owners recommend it because it has no drone.

I have the MAGNAFLOW 11229 on my NBS Yukon and just installed it on my better half's NNBS Suburban last week.

We both love it, as it is quiet when crusing, but does what it needs to do when you step on it.

Flowmaster 70 will be SIGNIFICANTLY quieter than that original 40. You should be good with that. No drone and fairly close to a stock sound other than when you really get on it.

Which one has the better performance

IMO, it depends on who you talk to or what you read on the internet but on a mostly stock engine there is neglible difference in performance between mufflers. I've had both magnaflow and flowmasters through out the years and they've performed the same for me. The only noticeable different in the sound that they put out.
