Muffler/Exhaust System for 2020 Yukon XL Denali 6.2L

Hi Everyone! I just signed up to see what people have put on a 2020 Yukon XL for after market exhaust. I wanted to go with a Flowmaster but when I went to their site, my vehicle was not listed(2020 missing). I don't see how this year could be much different than a 2019 or a 2021. I would assume that a universal muffler wouldn't be too big of a deal to fit but I'm probably missing something. Can I go with a universal Flowmaster muffler or does anyone have better options? Thank you for any information you may be able to provide.

Get on the telephone and call the Flowmaster folks, and discuss your situation. They may have a solution for you, and if not, at least they can explain to you what the issue is with their product and your year of truck.

2020 was last year of the K2 SUV and 2021 was first year of T2 SUV.
Since the model changes for 2021 MY, many places, for some reason, do not know the exact year a model changes so they omit certain years.
For example 2007-2014 theyll leave off 2014 and only list fitment up to 2013. Same goes for 2015-2020.
2014 and 2020 were hold over years until the new models came out.
If you search parts for a 2019 model SUV it will fit your 2020 with no issues at all.

Borla Touring but I have headers and an off-road Y pipe (no cats) so its much louder than your installation.

Hi, This old man advice doesn’t help you choose another exhaust system, but save your money for absolutely necessary repairs. I have a 2018 Denali with the 6.2, 72,000 km (about 45,000 miles) and had an AFM lifter failure. That took out the cam lobe, requiring replacement of the oil pump as well. Out of warranty so dealer repair was $12,000 Cdn (about $8600 US). Needless to say that was painful as it was not a budgeted repair. I have owned a Surburban or Yukon since 1981 and this will be my last.

I just replaced my belt and noticed my water pump is failing and a new one from rockauto was just delivered today so I’ll nip that in the bud this weekend. Curious, did you disable AFM after your lifter failure? What did the repair entail? I figure if/when I have that issue I’m gonna rebuild and change cams and just delete the AFM mechanically.

No, I didn’t have the AFM disabled when the repair was done. The local GM dealer accomplished the job and I don’t think they would disable it. It now has a 1 year warranty, valid at any GM dealer. The repair entailed Replacing: cam, lifters, oil pump, heads out for overhaul (guides, seals and machining) extensive flushing, waterpump as a precaution. Then new oil, filter, antifreeze and all new fasteners and gaskets. The mechanic did a great job and the result is a smooth running 6.2 with more power. After the countless GM engines in cars, trucks and boats there won’t be any more. I will be going over to the dark side!

Gone are the”Ultimate 22” wheels which cracked and replaced with 20” Denali 10 spokes with Nokian all weather snowflake tires. The ride is better than on 22” rims.

Not sure why you want to change exhaust. The factory 3" is plenty to evacuate the 6.2 with authority both at start-up and running around town. It is much quieter at highway speeds, which is the primary reason I valued the factory exhaust on my 2011. Drone is not exciting unless it is on my 67 427 Vette.

You did the right thing on the wheels. I personally would not consider the Nokians, but that is a personal choice.
