It just started making two noises after our trip to Ohio and back to AL. BTW...I averaged 18.5 mpg at about 75 mph.:)

The first noise is random. It sounds like a muffled lawnmower close to the back part of the engine. It is random but the only time it occurs is during an acceleration from a stop. The truck feels fine except for the noise.

The second noise also just started. It seems to happen around 2500-3000 rpms and sounds like a playing card in the spokes of a bike (from when we were kids). I don't know if it qualifies as "pinging" but the gas I use is 87 octane from Shell, Chevron or BP.

Are these sounds a "usual" problem with an easy fix? What do you guys think?

Weird is right. I don't drive it much so I didn't have much to offer. Now I have more info.

I have narrowed it down to the air conditioner. This is not the normal "ticking time bomb" sound that comes on for some people. Today I started (hot start...after an hour trip) the yukon and put it in reverse. I felt a little stumbley and the air was blowing out hot. I backed up, put it in drive and accelerated. During the acceleration the loud noise started and the air immediately blew out ice cold and was fine the rest of the drive (noise lasted 5-10 seconds).

The other noise is in the 2000 and up RPM range and it only occurs while the a/c is on.

Obviously it is an a/c situation but I don't know what it is.

Take a video bro

B

I would if I could reproduce the sound. The second sound (high rpms) will not show up on a video and the loud sound is unpredictable.

Come take a ride for a few hours and maybe you will recognize it.

I'm wondering if my compressor is freezing up a little bit. I really have nothing to base this off of though.

I'd say it could be the A/C blower and/or the fan belts under the engine. Also check the A/C compressor and/or evaporator!

What am I checking for?

get a recharge kit that has oil in it

I was thinking about this. One thing I noticed is that one of the lines from the evaporator coil (I'm assuming this is the thing on the firewall) had some white stuff on it. I couldn't tell if it was ice or not but I know if I find ice on a home a/c line then it is out of freon.

Found the problem. The a/c compressor is trying to lock up on us. I'm having it replaced and the leaking rear output seal/bearing on the tranny replaced. It is going to cost $1192. :emotions122::emotions122:
