Hey guys, I have an 04' Tahoe and I was under the understanding the fuel filter is in the fuel pump in the gas tank and therefore can not be changed and doesn't need to be unless the fuel pump goes. Am I correct? When That is what I was told when I went to buy a Fuel Filter anyway. I don't see one under my truck but I haven't looked that hard either.....

If you have a fuel filter, it would be located on the driver's side frame rail closest to the driver's side door.

That's odd...follow the fuel line from the tank and see if it has the filter..its a little difficult to see as its kinda hidden on the frame rail

yea dude, i dont see how you wouldnt have the fuel filter...

its located right about the area where the two doors meet on the driver side, it is held in by a black clip... its about 1 1/2" in diamiter, about 3" long.

i'm not sure what year it was started but it might just be 04 that the filter was moved to the tank.

Ok....ok.....ur right. I got my lazy ass under the truck enough to see it....barely, **** I'm sitting low. It is tiny little f'er. The filter on my wife's Volvo is much bigger. It is on weird diagonal corner part of the frame tucked up in there. I wonder why when I went to Auto Zone and asked for a fuel filter for my truck they said " No Ay"

Ty--- This looks a little different then what I am used to being that it is pressurized, do I need to do anything aside from unscrew the sukker? Doesn't look like I have any of those easy clip joints everyone is bitching about, it looks straight forward loosen rear bolt back out filter..... I also discovered today while looking into this I have a flex fuel VIN:Z engine. I did not know that.

i have a flex fuel as well, that means you have the quick connect on the front of the filter (to my knowledge, they didnt make the FF any different and since we have the same year i cant imagin its any different then mine). The back of the filter is just a few turns away from disconnect.

dont even bother with those universal quick connect bull *****... they dont work.. ON ANYTHING EVER! haha

GM makes a tool that i hear is tough to use as well, you need this guy here

it still takes some messing with, but it works pretty good, thats what i have

maybe it's 05 or o6 then...i know i read somewhere that they moved the filter in tank...hmm...i'm too fat and lazy to go crawln under my 05 tonight....maybe this weekend.

yea when i changed my fuel filter, some NASTY black shit came falling out of the old filter, i should have taken a picture

Well got the tool and a WIX fuel filter on order should be here in a week or so. So, servo this weekend, tranny flush and RP replacement Monday, fuel filter and oil change next weekend, e-fan conversion first week of June....

Should keep me just busy enough not to have to do yard work.

Hey TY, this guy(the HD hood guy) has OEM e-fans for $150 if your looking for one.

damn everyone is hitting me up this week trying to sell me stuff i REALLY want! :D

you should see some real MPG gains with that list of tune-up items. you should think about getting a can of sea foam to put into the gas tank on the fill up after your new fuel filter is in, it will help push out the remaining "crap" that was left behind in the fuel system.

and if your like me (love some good old fashion overkill) get a couple cans of sea foam and run half in the crank case a week or so prior to your oil change and run the rest into your vacuum line

and if your like me (love some good old fashion overkill) get a couple cans of sea foam and run half in the crank case a week or so prior to your oil change and run the rest into your vacuum line

I just foamed the intake last month, I do it every six months or so but I'll probably dump half a can in the tank when I do the filter......

Take off the vortec cover and there is a hose that goes from the TB down to the block on the passenger's side. You want to take the block end of the hose off,it's on a little L shaped nozzle, it should slide right off. Now, either have someone give the pedal a little nudge or wedge a tool in between the gas pedal and the underside of the dash so you get a little rev in the engine then either pour(faster) or let the hose suck it up until it is almost all gone then really plunge it in there and stall it out or if you poured it in just and it didn't stall just turn it off and let sit 30 min or so.....

Yes-engine running
NO-not INTO the block, into the Throttle Body. You want to pull the hose OFF the block so you are pouring/sucking into the TB. It's really nothing at all.
