Right, thinking I’d probably do the the delete, one way or another. Maybe with just the plug-in. I had found the other thread about “upgrading” but it doesn’t talk much about towing. Any thoughts on better towing with the XL vs the standard Yukon? What about the suspension, and for towing? Is a 2017 new enough that the suspension would last for another 5 years? Our 2007 had already had the air-ride removed.
Most folks believe that the Yukon XL handles towing better than the standard Yukon, because of (1) the Yukon XL's longer wheel base provides a more stable towing platform, and (2) the Yukon XL typically has a larger motor in it.
How much weight do you plan to pull and how regularly?

They're both 6.2L, yeah? If the '07 Denali's axle gear is 3.08 or 3.23, then yes, the '17 will tow better.
The 07 is dying. It pulls just fine but we’ve got transmission codes and a high metal content in the oil. The metal in the oil causes the crank sensor to malfunction and it dies under load - which is pulling our camper. We can’t do our own work so… I’d love to get it to someone who could rebuild it. 8L90, 3.23, no special towing package or provisions mentioned, just a hitch. 4WD has Lo range available.

If you got lucky and the '07 has 3.42, then they'll be a lot closer in terms of towing performance.
If you are under the impression that the '07 is less reliable, then sell it to someone who will fix it up and keep it running til at least 2037.
Bet a 6.0L L76 / LY6 / L96 / LC8 COULD be cheaper to find and install, than a newer vehicle ...
It’s the same 6.2 as the ‘07 but it’s the L86. The ‘07 has the L92.
We thought of that but what other issues with drivetrain, electrical, etc would we fine down the road-literally!
Our camper is little - 20’ long and about 5500 lbs but it’s 8’ wide and 10 1/2’ tall so it’s a giant parachute!
as everyone says, if you can add a trans cooler that will seriously help the truck. But overall 5500 lbs seems right in line with what this truck can do. Others can speak better to this.
It already has the standard Denali transmission cooler. And it does pull just fine - until we get off the highway and it just - dies… no screams of pain, no struggles, just nothing….
That was the lesser point. The major point was point (1).
2017 has the 8 speed. Hard pass......
