Service Park Assist

I have a 2016 Yukon and pulled out of my neighborhood yesterday and a deer ran right in front of me and I hit it. At first I thought the worst, but no physical damage to the front bumper as I was moving slow thankfully. However at the first red light the Service Park Assist cam to on.

Once at work I looked over the bumper more closely and looks like it hit right on one of the sensors.

Now the front and back parking assist does not work so I guess my question is if one goes out does it affect the whole system.

I had it scanned at work and it did show a code and my friend cleared the code and the parking assist did briefly come back on but as soon as I pulled close to a car the service park assist came light came back on.

Not looking forward to pull the bumper skin off just to replace one sensor but if that's what I got to do that's what I'll do. Just checking for answers before I go to the trouble.

Any help appreciated.

if one is damaged it needs to be replaced, that's the bottom line or the errors will never stop

Get the code and any suffix to narrow it down. The suffix may tell which sensor is not functioning properly.
I'll do that for sure but I'm sure it's the one that took the hit even though it doesn't show physical damage.

So just to be clear when one sensor goes out that will cause the vehicle to not give any kind of park assist in both front and back until replaced? Kind of like with the old Christmas tree lights when one would go out it would cause the whole string to fail correct?

I'm just trying to verify that.

It errors out, even if one is out of alignment, dented, twisted, unplugged.
as for both front & back, not sure but like Fless said a decent scanner will give you the code or codes
NOTE-that this type of code is a not a OBD code, it is a body code so a standard obd code reader will most likely not tell you the code it really depends on the capabilities of said scanner

You can use a mechanic's stethoscope and instead of have a straight solid metal probe attached to the single flexible tubing, you get the hollow metal tube that attached and it has a rubber small cone at the end and you can put against each sensor spot and listen for a "geiger counter" sound that indicates it is sending out a sonar like signal and working. If no noise, then sensor is bad. Can have some work and some not on the same front or rear bumper. Not that hard to access to change out. I have heard, but not tried it, that a cell phone microphone can hear it and record it too.

From what I can visually see there's no way to access this front sensor without removing the bumper skin. I'm all ears if anyone has experience with or knows of another way.

You would have to get underneath there with a flashlight and look up from underneath the bumper see if you can get your hands up in there and undo the clip

Already tried that before I posted and it's why I'm asking if there's possibly another way. I see no way my hands can access that from underneath.

Love my 2016, but the 2001 I had for 18 years was so simple to change most anything.

I just watched a you tube video for the rear bumper skin and bet that the front is just as easy. The one I did was a NNBS GMT900.

Already tried that before I posted and it's why I'm asking if there's possibly another way. I see no way my hands can access that from underneath.

Love my 2016, but the 2001 I had for 18 years was so simple to change most anything.
it should come off without too much work, but ya not as easy as the nbs, I'm happy my 18 silverado has a steel bumper it is fairly easy to take off if need be.

My 2007 Tahoe has a code indicating the number two sensor is defective. The park assist does not work now.

Yea, like my A/L friend's GMT900, one not working shuts down the whole system. I replaced the one and now works fine.

I had similar. Just changing the one sensor resolved mine. My old 2015 Yukon Denali. Dealer did it but I don't think he pulled bumper skin....coukd be wrong....
