The backup camera does not work, looks like the gm ones are super expensive is there a way around that? I see aftermarket ones reasonably priced. I still don't understand why after replacing the rear sensors it only gives me the warning when going forward. Thanks
you can find used oem ones on ebay or a junkyard, or go with a aftermarket oem style that is plug-n-play.
presuming the camera it's self is bad, you can replace it. I will require a little of bit of work the rear hatch will have to be opened up, take off the inside panel and then you will have to look in there where the camera is mounted.
OFTEN, people will inadvertently break the rear outside panel off because they think it does not come off, it does come off all of it unbolts from the inside, there are bolts inside other metal panels behind the plastic rear panel, some are mounted facing in and some are mounted facing out, once you get to the actual camera it has a plug harness and it can also be unbolted, nothing needs to be forced or broken off to do it. If you can't figure it out just look harder, some of the nuts are kind of hidden.
It probably takes 20-30 minutes to get it out with the right tools and taking your time to not break anything.
the camera's do fail but it's not very common, I grabbed a couple from the junkyard to have in my tool box in case mine ever goes out, easy to grab when someone else has already done most the disassembly in a junkyard.
without using a scanner I would at least inspect the wire harness that goes into the body in the upper center part when the rear hatch is open and make sure none of the wires are broken or chaffed, sometimes that can happen if the rubber seal part has come loose or has worn out
