Hello all,
It is my first post here. Nice forum!
I am in Europe (Bulgaria). As you know we use metric system. I was wandering, if I can find Canadian instrument cluster for my 2007 GMC Yukon XL Denali, is it just "bolt on" or many modifications are involved?
Any info will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Ivo

Welcome Ivo!

I have heard of people installing a police (PPV) speedo, which shows a higher top speed. (different scaling)
My impression is, it should work... ?

Not MANY, but it's likely you may need your speedometer recalibrated - NOT SURE.
Also not sure if its' the engine control module or the trans control module that would need recalibrating.
Apart from that, should be smooth sailing.

I'll be able to tell you in a few weeks..

I ordered one because it is *supposed* to be very low miles, but happens to be a canadian ppv model.
Having a hard time verifying mileage.. Usually the vin number shows the auction for the vehicle and has it's info.
This one shows up nothing.. But the seller sounded confident and had a specific mileage (~13k miles!)

Also ordered a regular PPV cluster with 106k miles. I see dorman has a new cluster.. $900.

Hopefully the canadian cluster was not one you were looking at Ivo! (Let me know if it was)

Now, what happens when a cluster is not reprogrammed and installed? I don't want to reprogram them just to test..

Worst case you'd need one of the dealer type scan tools or an app to tell it the cluster is km instead of miles. But maybe its already cluster dependent and works automatically plugging the new one in?

Hope so. Here's what I've come across..

Saw 1 video where the guy programs a new cluster with SPS, claiming it can only be programmed once and you couldn't program a used one.
Also while programming, it would have you connect the original cluster, then the new cluster.
So maybe the mileage is not stored anywhere else but the cluster.

Saw another video where a guy de-solders a chip to reprogram the mileage. Possibly older video because..

Third video a guy swapped clusters and had some obd tool to reprogram the mileage.. yet somehow the mileage is off by a few miles from what he entered.

Seems like a popular swap for some truck owners who are missing oil pressure and another gauge..
Haven't come across any issues searching the web regarding swapping clusters..
And you don't want to mix transmission changeovers. I think IVO needs one from '07-'09?

Hello all,

Thanks for the warm welcome!

Here are some pictures of the car. It is on jack stands because I have some staff to do. It is around 180K miles.

I bought it last year but have not driven it :-(, got less then 1000km.

Actually, I would like to have Canadian cluster only because of km/h and Celsius degrees. Like in my Monte Carlo that was imported from Canada and on the pictures I found online.

I see ads on ebay and others that they can program VIN, millage, engine hours etc. Here, for example:

Then, the problem will be to source Canadian cluster itself :)

Best regards,
Ivo

Hit up car-part.com, use some random postal code for southern Ontario since it's a big population and find a yard that has the cluster and is willing to ship internationally. There are plenty of them in Canada but most ebay sellers are in the US.

Hi guys,

Thanks Mikez71, I was looking in ebay.ca but could not find any at that time. The price and shipping is reasonable. I could take this bet and loose $200...

After researching and watching some youtube, I assume that it will work without reprogramming but odometer will be wrong. If I need correct millage, I need to reprogram it.

Do you know if GM Tech2 can reprogram clusters?

Thanks a lot,
Ivo

Not sure, but you will need the delco TDS subscription...

Hardware requirements...

-IF- the Tech2 cannot do it, some aftermarket devices should... ($140)

Hi all,

Quick update. I order the cluster from ebay link above. Unfortunately, it will arrive at the end of September.

If mikez71 share info earlier, it will be great :)

Canada cluster installed. Will probably remove it, and save it for a backup.
No problems I can find. IP saves the display settings because temps were metric, until I went into the DIC and changed it back.

Looks like it was a PPV through VIN decode, but no vehicle history shows up so can't corroborate the mileage....

Only those vehicles had the certified speedometers.

Did it work and show the proper speed in km without doing anything else?

I didn't verify speed by comparing to anything else (datalogs, gps, etc) but it seemed right.

Stock TCM programming is in km/h natively. The TCM must send a speed signal to the cluster, which then has it's own programming for the sweep angle.

PPV / SSV 'Certified' speedometers likely are just the 'luckier' ones that tested out to be more accurate after assembly, the rest went to civilian models.
