My wife has a 2010 Tahoe that has finally come to an end. The truck has 291,000 miles on it and she was told about 2 years ago that the engine was going and probably not worth fixing. Well it lasted another 2 years but now was told lifters are gone etc and truck is running on missed cyclinders as well as ticking etc. Basically not really drivable at all. Here to ask how I should try to get rid of it and for how much. She took great care of it and besides a broken dash under sterring wheel and 2 bad outside door handles the car is in great shape visually. Also has 4 newer tires etc and everything like air etc works great. Mechanically besides engine issues, it also needs struts replaced. It is a 2010 LTZ. Not sure where I should try to sell it or even what value it has? Was thinking craiglist? Any thoughts on price and how to get rid of it would be great. Thx.

Where are you located? Is rust an issue where you live? If you live in dry country and there is no rust, it's probably worth your time and money to put either a junkyard 5.3 or a reman in it. @89Suburban did this recently with his 350K mile Tahoe, and he's good to go for another 350K.

To answer your question though, I agree with James that it's really only worth salvage value to a prospective buyer. If I were in your shoes and didn't want to repair it, I would list it on craigslist and FB marketplace as a $2500 mechanic's special, and feel lucky if I got $1500-$2000 for it. You'd make more parting it out, most likely, if you don't mind the hassle.

It is worth 500 at best in current condition. If you try listing it online with a cooked engine you’re inviting a lot of trash to come haggle you to death over it.

As mentioned, a junkyard engine will probably at least get you rolling again for a reasonable amount of cash. In essence buy you some time to decide to keep or sell.

Otherwise, start saving your pennies. Have you seen the prices of used cars currently?

Same thing I told my wife to expect the unexpected showing up to buy it.
