Got my letter yesterday, June 24, 2025. Ours is a 2022 Denali that was purchased February 2022. We now have 22,500 miles on it and it is running great. We love it! The letter says "we will send another letter when parts are available." Oh well, bigger problem right now is that I woke up to a flat tire.

So looks like GM is doing this in batches. I just got this letter yesterday and confirmed it with my local dealership in WA.

Not everyone is immediately going to be added to the remedy list and there is no rhyme or reason for which list you get added on that they can tell. So either your truck keeps going and you take it in when you get your “official” remedy letter, or your engine blows up waiting and you have it towed in.

I got this letter too. I bought my unit a year and a half ago.

Hanging over our heads.....
Remember it's 3% published failure rate, so say 5%. That's only 1 out of 20 there will be a failure or conversely 19 out of 20 there will not be a problem. One could worry about the engine but still have a transmission failure or flat tire or electronics failure or .... I've had several vehicles in my life and it's been a wide variety of failures besides just the engine.

I for one am 'shaking it off' and not going to let it prey on my plans. For example, we just did a 3,000 mile (round trip) to New Mexico towing the trailer - slow leak/nail-in-tire and console software freeze (restart the car cleared it) were the issues for this one. :)

I am wondering the same too. It's clearly going to be while before these 600,000 vehicles be checked. The bulletin is not really clear about this and I am not car savvy and don[t particularly like or trust the dealership where I purchased my Tahoe.
If you have a 2025 it is not part of the recall.....

Mine went in this morning and it passed. 10,500 miles and a 40wt. filler cap.
It has now had 4 oil changes. This should be enough changes to have flushed out all "break-in" material.
I will be doing oil analysis and changes every 3000 miles. Will be watching those wear metals like a hawk !

What's the "it is" you're talking about?
What I mean by "it is running great" is that my 6.2 is quiet, idles very smooth, transmission you almost cannot even feel working. Overall a very pleasant drive for such a large and complex vehicle. When you step on it you can feel the cylinders that were taking a break kick in and the power go way up. My Wife and I are very easy drivers and the Yukon is real easy to get along with. Except for her running over a real nasty curb doing a right turn and putting a hole in the rear sidewall. I'm having four new Michelin Defenders put on it right now. Ouch!

I for one am not going to accept a 1/20 chance of catastrophic engine failure on the freeways of major metro areas, risk/reward. $90k to put myself/family in a position like that. The foot dragging and remedy are criminal. We owners/previous owners will have our day in court.

Thanks -- but I was asking @DontTaseMeBro what he was referring to.

My 2021 6.2L is at 62K miles and no issues. Odds are favoring it's OK and it's a pain to go into the dealer so I'm wondering....

If I wait on going in for the recall, say 6 months or a year or 2 years, is there loss of 'recall replacement option' if it fails while driving? How does this work / is there a time limit to respond to the recall?
Damn good question.

What are you going to do?
I'm not sure how you sue someone if your vehicle is operating properly. Especially if GM has extended the warranty. I guess you could argue diminished value but several people here have said wholesale prices haven't changed any.

Service Manager where I went told me he had 16 L87 in and tested this month and 4 failed. Not a huge sample size but 25%

4) Until it fails.

How do you know the engine will fail?

5) Resale value sucks at this point, but at least I have a new cap.

You also will have your engine inspected by a GM dealer, and the warranty on the current engine (if not replaced under the safety recall), will be extended for 10 years or 150,000 miles.

6) If I am 1,000 miles from home and it fails what happens?

If the engine fails within the 150,000 mile or 10-year warranty extension, you would have the vehicle towed to a Chevrolet dealer using the Chevrolet roadside assistance. Yes, you’d be stranded. The current new-car warranty does not include expenses, but a GMPP does.

If the engine fails 1,000 miles from home - after the 150,000 mile or 10-year warranty extension, you’re on your own.

If you purchase a GMPP, the plans can include rental coverage and other expenses. You may want to investigate that purchase?

I’m not sure what you don’t understand about the safety recall and the actions that may be taken by GM?

Have you had engine issues with your vehicle?
Thank you for the verification. I just wanted to know how much of this I will be responsible for.

1. The only way I know it will fail is if it fails. That is obvious. But, it can fail on the highway. Pulling my fishing boat out of the water. Going to my ballet lessons. I just don't know. GM obviously doesn't care either. They are trying to push much of the responsibility back on me. I just wanted to make sure I had this crap down properly because if I can't get the Code test done, I am clueless as to my chances.

2. So, an absolutely brilliant question just came to mind. What would an oil analysis tell me? I'm thinking Total Seal for the test. It will detect wear metals. I'm guessing they have some clue as to what they are reading and probably, with mileage and make knowledge, have some indication as to what is going on given the mileage. What do you think?

3. My 0/20 did not last long. I put my 5/30 Amsoil in it shortly after I got it. I think my outcome could be delayed by doing that if she is going to blow.

I will entertain comments on my brilliant idea. I'm thinking that calms me down enough to take the extended road trips. I put 203,000 trouble free miles on my 2011 Yukon Denali XL with lots of high mileage road trips.

Scroll back a few pages. I posted my analysis. And yes, you will be able to see it coming.
I plan to do an analysis after every one of my oil changes which I'll be doing at 3000 mile intervals.
Also Lake Speed did a couple videos on this recall and the benefit of analysis.
