Never seen this light on in my dash before and don’t know what it is, looked on the www and could not fined what it means. I turned right and it went away. See photo

I just upgraded to a Denali cluster in my 2018 Suburban and it has the same symbol. Quite often it has "--" in it until I'm on a road long enough for the data to come through.

By any chance did you recently activate OnStar wifi? That is supposed to provide speed limit info using an online database.

I haven't. I was guessing it got the information either through my phone or from the onboard sat nav database, but I have no idea.

I don't use the onboard SAT NAV so I can't really say. I use AA/Carplay. But I was under the impression that the speed limit database was a "for pay" feature.

My OnStar isn't working properly right now for me to check and I haven't had time to take it in to the dealer.

I never had OnStar in my ‘15 Yukon XL Denali and it didn’t have Apple CarPlay (CarPlay/AA wasn’t added to the K2XX SUVs til the 2017 MY). That being said it still displayed the speed limit in certain areas but not everywhere.

That would be the posted, recommended speed limit. Otherwise know as what you start with, plus 20 mph for the cruise control!
On the news, I heard that in California, they're going to mandate GPS speed governors, making it impossible to go over the speed limit under any circumstances.

Well that's a surprise. I guess even a broken clock is right twice a day...

You can turn that speed limit indicator on and off in one of the dash options. Mine went missing after one of the modules was replaced. On roads with no info it disappears. I think its based on the built in nav system because we don't use onstar but it seems like they'll switched to onstar on the newer models from what I read.
