Magneride towing experiences

Hey you all,

Just bought a 2024 Tahoe with Magneride and max trailering package. Was looking to hear how the towing is going with this setup when it doesn’t have the air ride in the rear anymore.

Thanks for any info/stories. We are typically towing about 6600lbs.

You probably will wish you had ordered the air suspension, going to have some sag. Suggest using a WD hitch to minimize it. Will tow just fine, but will have some rear sag.

I'm sure air ride is awesome. My '22 doesn't have it. Do I wish I had it? Nope! The results below speak for themselves. Tows my 24' trailer with ease. The key is to get a quality WDH.

My '23 Premier has magneride and max towing but no air ride and I don't want a WD hitch. It tows ok but for me , the suspension is too soft for truly great towing. I "feel" the trailer back there and I get 1 1/2" drop when it's attached. On the plus side, the 5.3 has plenty of power and after lots of tows, I don't notice it anymore.

Why wouldn’t you want a WD hitch? It literally solves the squat issue and eliminates sway if setup properly.

WD hitch makes the ride nicer for sure, even with our small 3800lbs travel trailer the “tugging” much less with WDH and very little sag (420lbs on the tail)

because it’s a lighter trailer went with andersen wdh

, has anti sway system baked in but the short winnebago tandem axle trailers are super stable so not critical.

Certainly wish I’d gone with air suspension but not for the towing. ride probably much better.

Just finished a trip from Tennessee to the Dakotas and back. I would strongly recommend a weight distributing hitch for your trailer. Page 289 of the owners manual for my 2021 Suburban says trailers over 6000 lbs require a weight distributing hitch.

To the guy above me, how do you like your Micro Minnie? I have had a 2100bh for about 6 months now.

Yes, very easy. Once setup, it pretty much is like a normal hitch other than the stabilizer bars/chains that connect to it. Those detach very easily too. I see no downsides to using one other than it usually can’t be used across multiple trailers unless each trailer has the necessary hardware on it.

We like the microminnie design very much, had a 2108 before. stable towing and descent value for what it is. easy to work on. 1720 we have a is pretty small, good for about 2 week trip with 2 people & small dog.

A year ago we bought a 2021 Yukon Denali 6.2L/10-speed with mageride (no air) to tow our 5300lb dual axle trailer -> camper w/650lb tongue weight. It didn't have the tow package so we added a Curt brake controller. It tows/operates very well / very pleased.

Without WDH the rear dropped and front raised noticeably more than with WDH. With WDH it's looks pretty much level and is rock solid up to 70mph w/20mph cross-winds.

What's you're tongue weight? and trailer weight? Yes, my 2021 magneride is also even with 650 tongue weight, 5300lb trailer, and Blue Ox WDH - pleasure to tow

Not exactly sure what it is when fully loaded but dry, it’s 570lbs. If I had to guess, loaded(around 6500lbs)it’s probably at 700-750lbs. For reference, the trailer is a Sundance 241bh.

My 2021 Suburban tows fantastic. We pull a Grand Design Imagine MLE 22. It has a slide and weighs around 5200 lbs. unloaded. The Suburban sits a little low in the back but it tows so well, I don't want to adjust it. It will pull at 80 mph, only tried it to see, I usually stay at the truck speed limit, and there is no sway at all. I do have a WD hitch. It is the best towing vehicle I have ever owned. It does not have air ride but does have magneride.

The Suburban sits a little low in the back but it tows so well, I don't want to adjust it. But I wouldn't tow anything more than 4000 lbs without a WDH with integrated sway control. I've had some experiences towing in heavy, gusty winds where I know I would have struggled to maintain control without effective sway control on the hitch itself.

It's also worth mentioning that the factory integrated trailer brake controller takes sway control to the next level by engaging the trailer brakes when it detects too much trailer sway.

But I wouldn't tow anything more than 4000 lbs without a WDH with integrated sway control. I've had some experiences towing in heavy, gusty winds where I know I would have struggled to maintain control without effective sway control on the hitch itself.

This was my experience. My trailer is 5300lb w/650 tonque weight and I tried towing without the WDH at first. The rear sunk 2" instead of 1" and at ~55mph started noticing unpleasant beginnings of sway. I could drive 60mph but I started having to really pay attention - not fun. With the WDH - no problems at all up to 75mph and 20mph cross winds going by Idaho on I-84 last spring.

That’s right but you can manually engage the trailer brakes with most controllers if you need to. Of course that requires remembering to do that while crapping one’s pants, but whatever.

I’m towing with a Suburban 3500 now and I had to add a brake controller to it. Se la vie.
