Question on 2003 suburban AC/defrost

On my 2003 suburban there is a button with a snowflake crossed out on it. This button is for disengaging the AC. My wife is telling me that if I run the defrost and don't hit this button to disengage the AC that the AC runs.. No matter what temp I have the defrost set at. This makes no sense to me. If I am running the defrost with hot air (temp set at 90 degrees) will the AC acully be engaged?

Us people in the outer reaches of Eugene, Or., agree with the wife. What does your owner's manual say? The a/c cycles to remove moisture in the air, only. If you unplug the compressor, it will not cycle, just like doing what the wife says. What is it about you Portland, Or. guys that think it is ok to argue with the wives?

The compressor will still run. Read the paragraphs about the A/C-Off operation:
