I see the thread on swapping wires but I’d it possible to make the Tahoe only activate nighttime lights when placed in drive?

Deactivate when in park
Activate when moved out of park

so.... you want your headlights to go off in park? even at night?
most likely not possible without some 3rd party programming or turning the headlight switch to off

Yeah I wish I didn’t have to do the wire swap to make the led strip act my drl, because it makes my light switch operate in two modes. turning on all lights or off

My ultimate goal would be disable DRL, keep nighttime activation of headlights only when placed in drive.

But I could live with DRL disabled and nighttime activation on

If your vehicle is running and you are in park, just use the headlight switch to manually turn them off. Then they turn off.

Am I missing something?

Yes, you are is called convenience where I don’t have to do that every time. I miss the days where you could just pull the fuse.

When you do it, manual,, you will end up, forgetting either to turn them off during the day or when you start ur truck at night. Then the chance of forgetting to turn them on at night after you turned them off.

I don’t like being parked during the day going into night and my lights coming on for a few hours before I realize they were turned on. Hence when placed in drive they turn on

It’s called convenience our vehicles have plenty of convenient features from power windows, power locks, or auto lock. Keyless entry the list goes on
