After research, it seems a lot of customers ('21 and '22s) have this engine noise without resolution from GM service. This noise is usually isolated to automatic drive, but isn't present when using manual shifting. I've resorted to the latter in regular traffic as the noise while in automatic can be a head turner. I've attached a video link of the engine noise someone else posted on youtube. Have any of you experienced this noise? If so, what was this issue? Was the issue resolved?

I've heard nothing like that on ours. Don't have auto start/stop though thankfully but who knows if that makes a difference or not

Try it with the A/C off. Sounds like the compressor clutch engaging/disengaging.

Mine has sounded like that from day 1, I got it in August 2020 and it now has 16,000 miles on it. I think it's exhaust valve and/or manifold noise that is characteristic, not something specifically wrong with ours. I hear it at drive throughs on other GM trucks and SUVs with the 6.2. I previously had a 2015 Escalade that made a slightly different sound its whole life.

My 22 has done that since day 1. I only have 1,200 miles on it, I was going to ask about it at my first oil change.

It sounds like a loose belt. My old '00 jeep cherokee would do this on startup until the rust on the idler pully bearing broke free every morning.

I have auto stop and have not heard that. Is it the 6.2? We have had our Denali 3 months and it has 2500 miles. I will keep an ear out for it.

I took the vehicle in and service was unable to reproduce the noise. When time permits, I may take it to another dealership for a second opinion as the noise is consistent and engine is getting louder at startup. I'm unsure if the two noises are connected, but it does sound like it could be a belt.

I have similar noises on my '22 RST with the 6.2. I can't quite determine what it is, but I'm suspecting the items that have been mentioned. Loose belt or A/C clutch. Although, the a/c clutch doesn't explain the noise when downshifting. It does seem to be getting worse though which is concerning, but it isn't doing it all the time.

so...purchase a couple new belts, maybe a different brand than gm and see if it that's it
no sense in having to leave it with the dealer overnight or days at time for that
or try some belt spray.

I've got the same noise with my 2022 Z71 6.2. According to the dealer, the noise is the injectors. I do a lot of business travel and have rented a bunch of the current body style (2021/2022) Tahoes/Yukons, and strangely, they have all had the 6.2. I have not had one that has had injectors that are as loud as mine. You can definitely hear them, but they are muted. The dealer tells me that this is normal noise, and that there isn't anything they can do about it. I can guarantee you, though, if someone was to take their $120K Escalade, which has the same engine, in complaining about this noise, they would figure out a way to fix it.

I also have the same noise on my 2022 Z71 6.2. I have noticed when I drive in L9 or below it does not seem to make the noise when coming to a stop. Curious if it has something to do with the DFM.

That's interesting. I'll have to try L9. I assume it shifts through the gears normally, up to 9th gear?

2022 z71 6.2. No start/stop. Same noise here. Also report I haven’t heard it in L9.

I pinned the flapper valve and I still hear the noise.

@Z7122 , what is the DFM that you're referring to? I tried L9, and like you, the noise disappears. I am by no means well versed in the technical or mechanical aspects here. I'm struggling to understand why the injectors would make the noise in Drive, but not in L mode. Also trying to figure out how to make the dealer understand and agree to diagnose and correct it.

@Doubeleive , I don't know what made me ask if it would shift through the gears normally. I guess because I had never tried L mode on this vehicle. It was a stupid question, LOL.
