Crazy "Used" 2021 Tahoe Z71 Price

I brought my wife's 2017 Ford Escape into our local Ford dealership for routine service and I noticed a 2021 Tahoe Z71 in their used car area! So I had to see what they were asking for it, and from what I could tell, it didn't have any of the sought after options (i.e., Trailer Package, Air-Ride Adaptive Suspension package, Z71 Signature or Off-road Package, etc.); just the basic model. It has 6,552 miles on it and the price is $78,750!! When I got home I checked it out on their web site and it shows a $5,250 dealer discount, so they're actually asking $73,500. I have a difficult enough time seeing dealers gouging customers with 10, 20 (or more) thousand over MSRP for new ones, and now the used market is gouging customers too?? It would be interesting to see when this one does sell, how much did it really go for...

Use car/truck prices are way up for awhile now. I could sell my 2019 Z06 for more than I paid for it new. Same with my 2021 Z71 Tahoe. Now is not the time to be buying a used car/truck.

It has probably sold already. Lots of folks are just happy to get a new one, regardless of how it is optioned.

Sure hope it wasn't a distressed trade in due to lifter problems. Being at a Ford dealer I'd be suspicious.

I bought my z71 brand new, and paid less for it then every single used z71 I could find on carmax regardless of options. It makes no sense. Used cars are booming!

yep my 18 Silverado has gone up $4000 in value since I bought it pre-covid, prices might not go back down until this time next year

I was thinking the same thing and clicked on the CarFax report they offer and didn't see any mention of major repairs. It showed a 5/14/21 entry for the original Chevrolet dealer and was sold on 5/15/21. It showed 1 recall item accomplished and then it was offered for sale by the Ford dealer on 8/22/15. As of today, still for sale if anyone is interested!

A 1992 z71 stepside with 210K was traded in at the dealership i work at. It was sold in a week for $10K plus. Florida prices have gotten insane.

I purchased a 2020 Yukon XL SLT less than a year ago I just traded $2500.00 more than I paid for it

and got $3500 off list of the new Yukon. Ordered Yukon Denali Diesel 4x4 with everything but the

entertainment option and power step running boards for $77,805.00 .

Now when I'm going to get it who knows that is the biggest?

But at least to give me something to look forward to somewhere down the road.

I can see add ons to new car MSRP as gouging but an asking price on a used car?? Ask whatever they want...whether they get it or not is a different matter but it's not gouging.

Well, everyone is entitled their opinion, but I still see these prices of both new and used cars as "price gouging" according to the basic definition of the word: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Price_gouging
I agree that as long as it's legal, ask for what ever you want and as you say, "whether they get it or not is a different matter."
I just checked and this Tahoe is still available according to their web site; so it looks like people around here aren't willing to be "price gouged."

I got my 2021 with a $67k Sticker for $63K last December. It now has 15k miles nice to know I can get rid of it if needed and even make money.

If your getting top dollar for your vehicle be prepared to pay top dollar for new. It’s all relevant unless someone just want to unload an old car without a new purchase.

There are some arbitrages still to be had. The issue seems to be buying like for like. I’m trading my 21 wrangler rubicon for 7k more than I paid in May (was 13% off from a volume dealer) and getting supplier on my Tahoe. One of the dealers I was looking at was also a Jeep dealer and wouldnt give me more than sticker…which was 3k less than the offers i got everywhere else. Have been trying to figure out whether it makes sense to just order a new one when I pick this one up and sell this to them for another 5-6 more than I paid given the trade market when it comes in.

If your getting top dollar for your vehicle be prepared to pay top dollar for new. It’s all relevant unless someone just want to unload an old car without a new purchase.

It's a great time for wealthy families that have extra cars and properties to unload their assets at a great price and wait 2-3 years for the Big 3 and Toyota to go back to offering substantial discounts off MSRP.

over the summer, I saw multiple instances of the used tahoes being priced above the new ones, even at the same trim level.
