Good Afternoon, I am a new member my namer is Sylvia and I am a long time Blazer / Suburban -- morphed into the Tahoe and now Escalade aficionado. I have always had either a Blazer or Chevy truck until recently when I moved into my "Beast," a fully loaded 3500 Dodge Cummins w/ 6sp & pack brake crew cab to specifically pull my Gooseneck 3 horse slant load trailer. But I recently decided that I wanted to upgrade my old 84 K5 Blazer to a later model Tahoe or an Escalade. My husband and I build Street Rods for our pleasure and fun so I wanted one that had less than 80K miles or one with a bad motor but no newer than 2002 loaded, no accidents, i.e., as close to a perfect body as possible and with most if all not options. I really wanted an Escalade, but I was willing to go with any of the rigs in that year spread if the vehicle met my other criteria. The main reason? We're getting ready to move back home to Alaska full time and my lifestyle will change back to what it was. I will be doing my grocery shopping once every 6-8 weeks, and loading a lot more stuff in the vehicle to load in my plane to go camping, fishing or spending time in our remote cabin.
I bought a "perfect" 1999 Tahoe, no engine, but perfect everything else...then.. lo and behold, found an even better deal on a 2000 GMC Suburban, I bought it, got it home, however, my daughter who has 3 young children promptly asked if she could purchase it from me because she thinks her Honda mini van isn't what she really wants for traveling back to Alaska. So, this mom said sure. The next day... I found my Escalade, BUT... yep.. BUT, it is perfect EXCEPT, the engine has a knock....not the flex plate, doesn't seem to be some easy, so it will be an engine replacement. After a lot of discussion and consideration, I'm leaning more toward just purchasing a Crate motor from Chevy... $3,200. But I only paid $1,000 for the Esky, and there are zero problems with it. The person I bought it from only had it for 1,050 miles, his daughter drove it and some how it made the noise... it has zero accident history, new brakes, all service records, it has been really well taken care of, the paint is very nice which is very rare for Arizona. It has new tires, No dents or dings and the undercarriage is not scraped and dinged. So.. That it me. I figure even with all the new gaskets and such by the time we finish with the new install we will have less than $5,000. in it and I will have my perfect ride. All I need to find is the Cargo Area Screen/cover it is missing.
