have you checked the brake fluid level?
if so....assuming it is full and there is no ABS light on
then unplug the brake fluid sensor and see if the service brake message goes away.
if so....then fluid level sensor is bad or funky, or proportioning valve is stuck.
most likely bad sensor if no abs light.
doesn't take a tech2 already did that myself and the tech2 will only tell you the brake fluid level is low yes/no, beyond that you have to do it hands on.
the only other issue would be if the abs light was on as well then there is air in the abs pump or abs pump is failing. in that case yes a tech2 or similar high end scanner would be needed.

How do you fix the proportion valve

well first you want to make sure it's not the brake fluid level sensor, some trucks do not even have one. if you unplug the sensor the service brake light will go out, then it's just a matter of trying another level sensor, if the new sensor does not work. then vvv

If you suspect the valve one way is to drive it around and do several hard fast stops (emergency stops) probably better to do it on gravel or dirt if possible and just do that random for a couple of days and it may straighten out on it's own, another way is to slow bleed the rear brakes. others have said they unjammed it at the valve and some say that it can't be done that way.
I would not try that unless there is no other choice, last option is to just replace it.

I jammed mine up once by changing the front brakes and then didn't slow pump the brake pedal and drove off and had to stop suddenly sending the pedal to the floor and it jammed the valve, i got it unjammed by doing as above, driving and doing some emergency stops and it fixed it's self after about 3 days.

Not so. If you need to program a module and desire to do it yourself, you can connect the Tech-2 to your modern computer with the appropriate adapter and either use the Tech-2 as a pass-thru device or download the software to the Tech-2 and transfer it to the vehicle.

How much was the Tech 2 and where did you buy it? Are there different versions? It seems Ike it might be a justifiable buy for owners of these trucks if it’s priced reasonably and gives true dealer level diagnostic and programming capabilities.

anything on the market should be current since software was last updated several years ago, chinacardiags has them.
