When pump goes, I will give it the full treatment. I would mostly definitely clean out tank if I had pulled out pump. That wasn't the objective this time.

Indeed. But, considering the mileage and me topping it off to get to the next even dollar, I can't complain. I need to find less-destructive ways to satisfy my OCD.
They say the gas you put in after it clicks off is wasted but I guess yours wasn’t wasted after all. You put it to good use destroying your evap system lmao. :gathering:

Spent 4 hours working on the 408 Denali tune. Ended up starting over with spark tables from a regular old 2006 2500 6.0 since I jacked around in a bunch of stuff trying to solve low speed bucking and knock that I wasn't sure was real or not. Finally figured out what throttle follower does and it's very close to not stalling anymore when coming to stop. Fueling is getting much closer again and the truck is responding well to changes just ran out of time after the starter caught fire!

This truck always hated hot starts but I summed it up to stroker crank and original 2004 starter. Well it finally gave up and started smoking like crazy! After an accident a few years ago I'm **** about fire extinguishers even though I've never needed one I did have it at the ready incase the starter lit off. Anyway clutch started it to get it home and pulled a starter out my parts pile to get him home. Hopefully I can get nearly done with the tune tomorrow.

You can see the burnt wires and grease oozing out.

Is that a starter from a 5.3 or a 6.0?

I'm assuming it is the factory LQ4 starter as it says AC Delco on it. Since my buddy had the truck the starter always sounded really slow and I assumed any crank was it's last. After tuning for an hour and probably stopping and starting it 10 times within that time it finally died.

I think 5.3 and 6.0 starters look the same, but sound pretty different. But if yours came off a LQ4, it should be the correct one. Maybe you did over work it, lol.

I’m pretty sure my 02 starter is original and I keep wondering how long it will last. Every time I look at replacing it I see it’s over $200 for a reman OE and move on. It might last forever who knows.

That's impressive Mexico made some good parts back then. I think the wiring going to the starter might be old or burnt because anytime the truck is hot the starter is slow even the new one which is much better but is noticeably slower when hot compared to cold. There's a little heat shield, the headers are ceramic coated and the wires have heat wrap so I think the wires might be damaged underneath the wrap. Other than this one I've never killed an LS starter either.

Yeah if it’s not getting enough current due to bad wiring that will definitely shorten it’s life.

I never see anything with an LS come through the shop needing a starter and the only one I killed had 300k on it. The starter part was fine it was in the solenoid cause it would just click sometimes
