Should I just drive off a cliff or is this fixable?

This is a 1997 Tahoe Suburban four-door 5.7 L V8. I'm pretty sure it's not low transmission fluid because it was recently topped off.

If I drive for a long time on the highway and then come to a complete stop, then start to accelerate again, there is a loud clunk. Almost like being rear-ended lightly. Then everything goes back to normal. Happens extra often if I'm towing my trailer with a lot of weight.

Is this a "sell the car quickly before the transmission totally fails" situation or a "don't worry, that's a common error and everything is fine" situation? Any advice would be appreciated.

I should note, the car is running perfectly fine other than this error code and that occasional weird clunk.

Or the pump took a hit and its slipping out of gear at low rpms. Does it creep at idle with your foot off the brake or do you have to come off idle?

I want to answer this question but I'm too retarded to understand it. Are you asking me if I'm on a flat surface and in neutral with my foot off the brake, does it "creep" forward? Use more words that a child with down syndrome would understand.

Look up slip yoke clunk on youtube. It's only 4x 10mm bolts on my truck to remove the driveshaft to clean/grease the yoke.
I would recommend you pay more attention to cleaning up the corrosion on the outside of the yoke than packing it with grease. You can normally see where the outside is sliding on the seal from the lines/grease around it. If you make sure at least that area is shiny and free from corrosion it should help a lot. Or you can buy a shiny new and improved nickel plated yoke, but it's a bit of a PIA to install.

Instructions for checking the trans fluid are stamped on the dipstick. If that's good then it seems you have a fairly minor issue with it. I wouldn't think it would cost much from an honest mechanic if you're not comfortable doing it yourself.

In drive. Without your foot on the brake.
