does anyone have any experience with Mevotech tie rods? One side has some play in it and so I’m trying to get new ones as soon as possible. They’re pretty cheap on rock auto but that seems to me like they might not be safe. I don’t want to drop a lot of $ on Moog as I just graduated college and don’t have a job, and once I get a job I’m getting a new truck so longevity is not a concern to me. They also have AcDelco advantage series for a little more $, and Detroit axle on Amazon for fairly cheap. Which ones would you guys go with on a budget?

well as the saying goes, you get what you pay for so it's just a matter of what do you want to spend, just because the mevotech are cheap does not remedy them "unsafe"

Original Equipment or Moog. We're still driving a vehicle around almost 3 years after we planned to upgrade. Life gets in the way of your plans sometimes, take good care of what you have.

I understand Moog is top quality, but as I stated in my original post I cannot afford them at this time.

well whatever you decide on, calculate a alignment into that scenario, unless your a rocket scientist it will need a alignment afterwards.

I get it fella, take a look on Craigslist or FB Marketplace, maybe someone has a set for sale that are languishing in their garage. Alternatively, check the reviews for the lower priced ones, they just might be decent after all.

For a short term I'd think the cheaper ones would be OK. I HIGHLY doubt anyone would sell an unsafe unit.
All it takes is a proven unsafe product to get a gazillion dollar law suit going.

well whatever you decide on, calculate a alignment into that scenario, unless your a rocket scientist it will need a alignment afterwards.
Well I ended up going with Detroit axle. Got them today and they looked and felt good so I threw em on. Don’t need to calculate in an alignment, all you need is some rope and 2 sturdy objects and do it in your driveway. Looked it up on YouTube so I gave it a try and alignment is damn near perfect.

Detroit axle had 4.3/5 stars from 60 reviews so I ordered them and they came in today. They looked and felt good so I threw them on, aligned it in my driveway and they feel awesome. They were $35 so we’ll see how long this lasts.

Redid my tie rods, pitman arm, idler arm+bracket w/ moog parts

The ball joints were super tight as in: Resistance to rotating in the cup. Lost my return to center from 9-3 o clock. Too much drag from the things. It improved a bit when I stepped to a proper high moly chassis grease, but it still took 20k miles or so to wear in such that the components would turn with the appropriate amount of force.

Made it kind of a PITA to drive on the freeway cause I'd have to apply force to the steering wheel, but if I hit a bump, it would cause stuff to move and release the tension from turning the wheel and I'd have a good deal of difficulty going straight particularly in side winds.

Not too much, I measured the old ones that came off and set the new ones to the same measurement and it was fairly close. I only did it because I need new UCAs, which I will hopefully be able to get in the next few weeks, then I’ll take it to get a proper alignment.

The tie rods from moog should be good - but also very very tight. Let see how they last...

The tie rods from moog should be good - but also very very tight. Let see how they last...
They'll clearance in proper over the next 15k or so. I suppose it depends largely how much driving you do. More bumps and wheel turning might do it faster. But for me, was about 15k before they got to what I would call free moving without free play, which is what ya want. I found using a proper high moly chassis grease helped greatly compared with a wheel bearing grease which is what I had in the grease gun originally.

Lube mine at every OCI. 30k maybe a bit more on them so far, no signs of abnormal wear. Still nice and tight. I'd love to have an OE to compare with though. Found out after I installed them that moog ***** the taper on some rigs so oe no longer fits so you're stuck continuing to use the aftermarket. Can't really tell if that's the Case bere because I have nothing to test against, but I digress.

Are you guys using Moog’s Problem Solver line, the ES3488 and ES3493T? And if so did you happen to buy them off Amazon?
