I have a 04 yukon denali interceptor with the 6.0. It is running super rough and wanted to do a valve adjustment. I asked dealer to check a few things for me but they didnt give me any answers. I need to know what type of lifters i have and what the best way to adjust them is. On my old cars i went off tdc of cylinder #1 but read recently that it would be better to do it at full lift. So im a little confused. I dont have a lot of time on my hands to really research but when i do have time i try to. I work 2 full time jobs. I tried searching but nothing came up so yall are my last resort. I also do not have a repair manual as i have not been able to find one in stores and just havent had the need, until now, to really look at it. Hope yall can help. Might as well say this now. Has new plugs, wires, air filter, pass exhaust manifold gasket, new battery, and bank 2 sensor 2 o2 sensor fault. Waiting to address that hoping its working properly and telling me somethings wrong up front. Thanks in advance.

Hi Jeffry,

Your motor has roller lifters, assuming it is a stock LQ4, and the only way to adjust the valves is with adjustable pushrods, which they don't have from the factory. Let's address that Bank 2, Sensor 2 fault. What specific code(s) are you getting? O2 sensors have their own code and a failed cat has its own code.

The code is p0161. I was really hoping i could adjust valves this weekend. Best i got out of her is 12mpg on the highway which it rarely sees.

Alright, that code refers to the O2 sensors heater performance. It's the sensor, wiring, or the ECM. Need to crawl under and check the wiring for breaks or chafing, then swap sensors and see if the code returns or moves to eliminate that.

since you did the plugs and all that some other things to check besides the obvious 02 sensor are coil packs, MAF sensor, fuel pressure, intake leaks

Ive checked for vac leaks, clean maf sensor, checked fuel pressure, all turned out to be ok. Not getting misfire code so coil packs should be good. Dont really have money to just throw at this or that either. I think it needs internal motor work based off of sound. If the seller was upfront with me about this truck i wouldnt have bought it for the price that i did but it is what it is now. I tried getting the o2 sensor off this weekend but it would budge at all. Probably gonna have to heat it up but thatll be another day if at all. I dont have a torch. I got scammed with a fake inspection sticker so im frantically trying to get it right enough so i can take it thru the dmv station. I appreciate the input fellas.

Did you spray around the intake at the heads with carb cleaner?
