Started off Friday by using prep sol to get the trucks surfaces spotless and free of fingerprints and grease. Then lastly use a couple tack rags to get off any remaining dust.

Time to lay down some color.
The basecoats mix at a ratio of 1:1 (half paint, half reducer) then mix it together in a couple mix cups to add to the gun as i run out while spraying. i think i only did 2 coats on the parts of the roof that are rarely seen and 3 everywhere else of the black and it covered well, making sure i see no pewter exposed.

Nowadays good automotive paint flashes fast! 15 minutes
(flash is basically dry time before you can spray another coat on it)

so after the black i cleaned the gun and Garett started mixing up the Bermuda Blue. Then we used this huge plastic tarp/cover to save a ton of time and protect our top color.

Bermuda Blue time.

3 coats.

by now we had been painting pretty much all day and the sun was just setting.
Planned on letting her set and be ready for a full day on Saturday of clearcoat and spraying.
Always fun to pull tape off though and see what we actually did :)

Very proud of Day one. After staring at this i knew i didnt want to do a bright silver stripe, so that gave me time to think of something creative to do with it tomorrow.

My body was beat to hell already

Yeah there’s no way I could attempt painting this much on my own! Let alone the small stuff! Lol. Thumbs up friend! Keep it up cuz I’m loving the progress! Blows my mind that you can completely change the color of your truck! Make sure you have some quality beer to complement the work! :bleh:

The stripe seemed to be too strong of a contrast. So i came up with this

i woke up early and masked off for the 3rd time.
i randomly in a very sketchy way sprayed Chrysler Brilliant Black Pearl to darken up my base.

d363.jpg

Then i used Ford Dark Shadow grey and laid one coat on the black. Then i got another shade of Grey that was just ever so slightly darker than the previous (GM Storm Grey Metallic) and used a Honeycomb Airbush stencil to give a very slight ghosted effect of honeycomb just to keep your eyes busy in the sun.

d364.jpg

To not catch an edge of the stencil i had to spray about 1-2 honeycomb rows at a time following the curve until i filled everything in.

i loved it and it was right on time as my buddy pulled up, i was pulling the tape off to prepare for the clearcoat

Final paint stage. Clear Coat

Here is my little paint station. The only flat spot in my garage. Just covered it with a black garbage bag so i dont get paint all over it.
Clearcoat doesn't use reducer like colors. It does use Hardener though and mixes at a 2:1 ratio.

d362.jpg

Spraying the clear is very instense. It's very strong and thick in the air. Strong on your eyes and you are paying so much attention to make sure you dont go to close and get a run or be too far and spray dry tiger stripes. It seriously took everything i got to get through all 3 coats. I laid it on very thick to give me plenty of layers to wetsand down the road.

Laying down the final coat of clear. Eyes burning, legs were rubber, arm was so weak

yeah, my buddy being there probably saved me a whole day! but, it was brutal and non-stop hustling

This Bermuda Blue has been one of my favorite OEM colors since i first saw it back in the day.
It has so many personalities. At night it is almost black. Under light it does a few different things

ok. enough of my crappy cellphone. End of spraying!

I'm sure my neighbors were happy that the Fume clouds were done coming out of my garage and the neverending drone from my compressor stopped. I drank about 7 beers just staring at what had just actually happened. It was very rewarding. I went to bed exhausted but very grateful. Mission accomplished! "if you think it.. do it!"

Yeah there's no way I could do that no matter how damn hard I want to think it. Great job and I'm sure I'm not the only one that's super jealous. You're a friggin' artist dude. Congrats.
AMEN....I said something very similar a few pages back!

thanks man! i appreciate that coming from you. what i would give to have all your mechanical abilities. I can't tell you how many times i had to reference your build thread for information during my build. also, i guarantee you could tackle a paint job. Not to mention, if i didnt do a 2-3-tone jpb it woulda saved me a lot of time.

My Denali is Bermuda blue and I love the flip flop. Good job on yours. Digging the accent stripe

Ahh, you are one of the lucky ones! I rarely see them. Post a pic of yours!
