My Florida trip is approaching and I need some advice on what to get.
Maybe I'm typing in the wrong name on the search bar but couldn't come up with anything similar.
But the top Cargo Box or the Hitch Carrier?
Cargo Box I have to buy the top rails. Mine truck does not have them.

I have a Stowaway2 Max cargo carrier with the swing frame and a rooftop carrier. The hitch carrier is a little expensive, but was worth the money. If you are lucky, you may be able to find one or both on Craigslist and save some money.

Just did a road trip from wi to pcb. Had a cargo hitch from a local store for $45, worked out great. We had my sons stroller, 3 lawn chairs, 10x10 canopy tent and a cooler. We could've had more stuff but I didn't want to weigh it down much. All our luggage fit in the back with the 3rd row up. We accessed it using the rear window.

I'm glad we didnt pick up a roof box because the condo parking ramp had a clearance of 7'.

I use the Highland 1042000 Hitch Mounted Cargo Carrier off the back, and Thule Motion XT XXL on top.

Huge cooler with most of our food for the week goes on the hitch carrier. Odd shaped, fluffy, and light stuff goes up top (bike trailer, life vests, toys, etc), and heavy luggage goes in the rear of the truck.

Though I think this year the cooler may be going inside with a bike rack on the back...

Did this for a few years with bikes on back then switched it up and started bringing a trailer...
So listen, to each their own but if i were you i'd skip buying the stock cross rails(unless you want them) and get something from thule or yakima. They attach direct to factory front to back side rails and then get the biggest cargo box you can buy. They make cross rails in different lengths and the uprights do no damage to factory rails. I personally bought yakima stuff and borrowed a box from family. There is a weight limit on rails, boxes etc so take that into consideration too. Remember tho, on the roof you are limited to parking, car wash, etc...I ultimately ended up taking my small trailer with cross bars and two boxes, bikes and coolers in the trailer, nothing in truck. I only have a tahoe though and I believe you have a yuk xl so you have more room inside. I bought all my stuff from a pace called rack attack i think, ill grab the link in a few. We go from NY to the FLA keys every year, my wife and 3 kids. No matter what you do, gas mileage will suffer but its still cheaper than a plane ticket for 5....my 2 cnts

Also keep an eye on prices using google. I got my XXL Motion XT cargo box for $600 shipped from CARiD... it's back up msrp now, but I've seen it dropped on occasion at various sites (maybe when Thule runs a promotion for retailers?)

I personally hate the rooftop boxes as they're a pain in the arse to get in them (and I'm 6'2").

I have one and use it but if I had to do it over again I'd buy one that goes in the receiver hitch (or haul a trailer).

A little too late for the crossbar. I bought the OEM from a 2017 Yukon. (One of the Members here)
And I bought a Thule Force XL
for $300 the guy never used it and still in the box. Enough for what I need to take.
There is 7 of us going but on the way back some are flight back because of work so me and my little guy are taking the Auto Train in Orlando. Cheaper and I get to rest. Cost $340

I have one. We're always hitting the button while it's in the garage. It goes up a bit and as soon as it hits something it goes back down.

I wouldn't worry about that as much as I would trying to get on top of the vehicle when it's been raining and everything is slippery. Believe me there's been some pretty stressful times I've had to get in there to get stuff.. toddler screaming for a toy and me stopped on the side of the interstate while it's been raining, everything slippery, cars flying by 100 Mike's an hour, etc.

You have to stand on either the rear bumper or one of the tires to see anything in there (or carry a step stool with you).
