I was an ASE Master Tech for awhile, didn't keep up with the certs/tests though ... I went to Northwestern Ohio and got a degree in High Performance Technology, graduated in early 2005. Went straight to work for ET Performance here in Walled Lake MI doing 4 & 5 Axis CNC machining, C5R/LSx, JM Striker Viper Heads, 6.1/6.2L Hemi for Mopar Performance & Harley head porting and air flow development. I did a ton of stuff there, including the now RHS LSx head is technically all my work. I did the very first few sets for comp cams before they purchased the design. Mast Motorsports got some of the work as well since one of the owners split ways and now works for them. I worked for ET Performance till we went out of business because of porosity in our head castings causing water leaks. We refused to send out castings to china which probably would have saved the business. The local foundry in Muskegon just could not get the castings to stop leaking regardless of the tooling changes we made. Ultimately customers got pissed and we went out of business with hundreds of sets of useless heads. I then went on the work for LSM Engineering working on the same Makino A81 CNC Machines. I got to do some cool ass shit there. I learned how to machine billet engine blocks as well as cam grinds and billet camshafts (they do a good chunk of custom grinds for comp cams). Since my accident in my 67 Camaro in 2009 I had two spine surgeries all of this turned in to more of a hobby and I went in to business for myself doing computer repair. My business is Nerd For Hire but I am currently closed due to my two concussions from my two recent accidents. I basically can do anything if someone shows me how to do it once. I'm not a fabricator but I can weld. I have a friend whose shop I am using and he is my fabricator for my Camaro and this Yukon project. Luckily the Yukon is pretty much all bolt on stuff and has been going pretty smooth...

Hey everyone, sorry for the long ass week with no updates... Unfortunately my transmission builder had 2 deaths in his family which set me back all last week which is honestly the least of my issues when your talking about deaths in the family. In addition to his issues, I tossed out my back repackaging up all the PowerStop brakes (3x 50lb packages) to send back after looking at the shit ass powered coating job. I decided just to order the rotors and pads and paint the calipers myself. It seems PowerStop does not prep the calipers at all (maybe they dip them before?) and the quality control isn't that great. I wasn't about to put a set of calipers on my truck that were already showing signs of wear and chipping.

Anyways, now that the funerals are all over with, my transmission should be done tomorrow night (Mon) if I'm able to drop off all the parts to him tomorrow. I changed my plan around since I have the suspension finished I would like to get the transmission in the truck on a stock tune and drive it for a week to make sure everything is good to go for the blower installation. Kind of a pain since the intake is already off but it's really not that much more work for piece of mind when it comes to the transmission and the amount of abuse I will be putting it through.

Heres a few pics, not many... I will get a lot more when I do the blower install and when I power wash everything and its all clean and pretty. It's been a rough week on my head and back. Hope you enjoy as much as I have.

Anyone know of a good BRUSH on caliper paint?

I did decide to get a catch can even though my chassis builder who also worked for GM told me it wasn't necessary with a NON DOD engine. The factory GM PVC system is supposed to handle 5 grams/hr I believe is what he said... I didn't wanna take any chances with adding the LSA.

Kooks Headers went in really easy, almost too easy lol... I left the one broken bolt on the far back passenger side. I guess I will see if it leaks this week when I drive it around breaking in the transmission and if it's an issue, the head will get pulled when I do the blower install. I really don't want to crack open this motor as everything else looks great for a motor with 150k miles. It looks like it's ready for another 100k easy...

Intake Manifold had to come off just to get off ONE top bell housing bolt so I could pull the transmission. I really just wanted to toss on the LSA and start tuning but the common sense in me says to break in the transmission first and make sure everything is rock solid before I add another 150 - 200hp... I can wait another week and honestly just wanna see how she sits and how this truck handles now. I should have the transmission installed and everything buttoned up by Tuesday/Wednesday and I will test drive it for the rest of the week/weekend and then start on the LSA immediately. I might even plan a road trip this week just to get some miles on the transmission so I can get started quicker lol.

Dirty I know... Everything needs to be power washed. Will update...

It is an AWD but I have not reinstalled the transfer case yet. These headers are supposed to work without issues according to Kooks and it doesn't look like there would be a problem at all... Have the Kooks Y Pipes to finish it off and a Magnaflow muffler. Not gonna replace the factory cat back pipe as with my 6.2L it's already 3.5" stainless and most aftermarket kits except Borla I think go down to 3". Should sound awesome I just hope my daughter doesn't hate me for too long and that it doesn't make my migraines worse. The things we do for performance, man I love going fast lol...

Sorry to hear about the deaths, and the pains. Hopefully things go quick with the blower install and we can see you chirp all 4 tires! lol.

I just went through the whole thread and wow that is a lot of work! I am curious about the blue 71 Chevelle that was hiding in the background of a few pictures with the Yukon on the lift! I can't wait to see the progress and the truck back down on the ground!

The Blue Chevelle belongs to my chassis builder/fabricator. I can get some more pictures of it tomorrow when we finally get back to work and get this transmission in. It's got a pretty strong 454 in it with a TH400 but he has the same plans as I did with my Camaro and is going fuel injection and twin turbos. His power goals a slightly less than mine (800hp or so) and I believe he is doing an LS build. I will post some pics of his ride tomorrow...

I FINALLY got my transmission back last Friday but I've been waiting for my friend to get back from up north so we can get this damn thing back in my truck lol. I lost 2.5 weeks on this project to rebuild the transmission :-( I can't really complain because labor was free and as I stated in my previous posts, my transmission builder had two deaths in his family. It was a ****** situation all around. This truck was supposed to be a 4 or 5 day project with suspension, brakes and blower installed. It's been a month now which is pretty disappointing to say the least.

Anyways, I have the transmission, thats the important part lol. I picked up a transfer case gasket today and we plan to pull an all nighter if needed tomorrow to get the transmission back in and get the blower installed in time for my birthday which is Wednesday. I will keep you all updated and hopefully get some new pictures posted.

Hello all... I have an update. Not exactly the update I wanted but it's still progress. I was planning on driving my truck home on Wed but ran into some issues with the Kooks Y Pipe I received... I got a great deal on it which was my fault but the reason for the "deal" was that is was the wrong damn part! Kooks must have screwed up because the part # on the box was correct but the Y Pipe was for a different application.

Monday we only worked for 4hrs but we got the Transmission in, Transfer Case in, replaced all 4 U Joints and reinstalled driveshafts. Can't really even remember what else we did but it was a good productive day.

Originally I was going to get the new transmission in and break it in and enjoy the new suspension this week and add the LSA next Monday. Due to the exhaust issues, we decided to get the Power Stop calipers on and get the truck on the ground. This was a huge accomplishment for me since the suspension had been done for 2.5 weeks and I still hadn't seen it on the ground lol... I'd like to add that I DO NOT suggest Power Stop calipers, only the rotors and pads. The only reason I put these on are because they were FREE. I complained to Power Stop about the crappy finish so they took the entire kit back and I got a refund. I then bought just the rotors and pads separately and much to my surprise, Power Stop accidentally sent me the replacement calipers from before. I decided to hold on to them for a few weeks to see if they asked for them back and I haven't heard from AutoAnything or Power Stop so I figured it was a nice birthday present lol. Still not happy with the quality of the powder coating but I couldn't pass up on brand new free calipers :)

So, the brakes went on and that meant I could get Wheels/Tires on and the truck dropped...

This is how she sits now... I think the rear is perfect but I want to adjust the front struts and add another spacer ring or two, maybe drop it another .5" - 1". Thoughts???

So... Since I wasn't able to drive the truck on my birthday and we were delayed due to the Y Pipe, I decided NOT to wait for the LSA install. We started getting things ready for that and looked over everything on the motor. I had one exhaust bolt broken off on the drivers side head so I decided to pull it and take a closer look at the motor. After removing the head, the torque on the bolts was simple too loose. Clearly they were losing torque and upon further inspection, I noticed that the MLS head gasket was about to start leaking. Good thing I pulled the head. Anyways, I decided to be safe and pull both heads and clean up the deck surface. I'm going to add two new Cometic MLS head gaskets ($100 EACH!!!) and a set of ARP bolts. The rest of the motor looks great so I'm not gonna mess with it.

Here is a pic or two for those asking about the Chevelle... Both my Camaro and his Chevelle are covered in dust right now from a boat he built. Everything needs to be blown off and power washed next week. That's what you get when you build 22' fishing boats and cars at the same time lol.

One more thing and then I gotta get to bed lol (4am here)... These Kooks headers are bad ass. See pic below and look at the extra mile they go for performance. I was surprised. It's hard to tell from this pic but that point is a good 4" long and merges the pipes nice and smooth. Never seen that on any of my BBC headers before.

Another note I want to add and want to ask other lowered people with AirRide... I did NOT do the Free Travel mod (cut off the bump stop bracket). I have the rear NorcalSS 4" kit but I think it drops less on Air Ride trucks. I didn't wanna cut that off unless absolutely necessary but after getting it on the ground, I don't think I need to. I dropped the rear tire on a 4 x 4 and compress the spring and still have almost an 1" before it would hit the factory bracket. Is that mod only needed on trucks that are 4" or more in the rear? Can @NORCAL SS chime in here?

Thanks!

Did you use shortened ride height links? If not then yes the air ride will raise the rear up. You can use threaded rod and cut your own. I forget the exact length I ended up making mine but I dialed it in until it sat just right. Your rear looks high to me but maybe it's because I'm running 26's. At that point you'll probably need the free travel mod.

I'm at 3 inches in the rear and got about an inch to bump stop . I'll end up doing the free travel mod eventually bc I bottom out on big dips on the roads. Oh and it will settle after a few weeks
