3" Level lift w/ 33x12.5r20 or 285/55r20?

I recently bought the 3" Crown Suspension leveling lift for my '08 Yukon. I'm trying to decide between buying the 285's versus the 33's, I'm going to run the Toyo RT's and there seems to be 1/2" between the two. 285/55r20 is listed @ 32.4" and the 33x12.5r20 is listed @ 32.8" tall. I've spent hours querying the web for a straight answer on if the 33x12.5 will fit? I'm planning on running either tire on matter black 20x9 GMC replica wheels.

Please, anyone who has personal experience please weigh in and pictures are a major plus.

Go with the lightest weight tire since the difference is .4" to save on MPG

Good advice 01Konvict; that being said, how badly did your mpg drop pulling those 35's? Also, on your initial build I saw you ran Toyo RT's and then switched to Nittos; did you like the RT's?

Well mine dropped about 2 mpg city and 3 highway. The toyo were great just wanted to swap from 35 to 33.5. I would have kept them but they didn't offer the size I wanted at the time of build. I do really like the new ridge grappler too

That's not terrible, 2-3 mpg less isn't bad at all. I've noticed that as well, the RT's are only offered in a small group of sizes. I agree, the new Ridge grapplers look great; the side wall is sick looking. My brother recently bought them in 295/60/20 (33.9) for him Ram 1500 and they ride great.

I'd go with the lightest tire in the size you feel looks best. My falkens weight about 71 lbs a piece and it's evident, MPGs are about 12 city and 16 highway.

You should be able to fit the 33x12.5, they are a little (I mean very little) shorter and wider than my 305s. Most tires of that size seem to be between 60-75 lbs. Tiresize.com seems to have a decent listing of tire weights as they can be hard to find on some sites.

I'll be keeping a similar size and moving to the lightest tire I can find with the next set. BTW, 305/55 Mastercraft MXTs only weight 60 lbs.

@NGAneer- Good feedback, thanks for your input. I realize weight is definitely something to consider, especially for those of us who have the not so mighty 5.3L :/ So, you've seen the 305/55's next to a 33x12.5 and they are a good bit taller?

Not a good bit but I can tell, especially from a distance. Depends on the specific tire. Mine were 33.4" tall when they were new before they had the weight of the truck on them. Most 33x12.50s are ~32.8 inches tall. It's small (0.6"), but I can tell a difference.

There's a lot of trucks running cheap chinese 33x12.50s around here and they all look shorter but, sometimes wider than mine.

Here's my disclaimer, I'm picky as hell so you could be completely happy with 33x12.50s. I'd even buy a set if they were cheap enough.

@NGAneer, makes sense... The golden rule still applies, "You get what you pay for". That's why I plan on buying the Toyo's as they manufacture a solid tire at a decent price. $1,100 for a set of Toyo's is a decent deal in my book.

Question, did you have to do much trimming to squeeze those 305/55's under a 2.5" leveling lift?

I was going to say no, then I wrote it out and that turned into a yes. It was all plastic though.

1) Trimmed the "bracing" behind the front of the wheel well liner and zip-tied the liner back.
2) Trimmed a couple of corners on the black plastic in the rears.
3) Flipped the upper shock bolt in the rear to keep it from rubbing through the liner. (Did this when a lifted the rear)
4) Hammered the rear of the front fender a few times, probably only gained a 1/2-3/4"

Check out my threads. I have run both the 33x12.50 toyo MTs and the 285s. Granted they were on 22s but they are the same size tire. The 33s didn't scrub a bit with a 2.25" ready lift, no lift in the rear. I later found a set of 285 Terra grapps and like them even more. I am currently running them on my new truck as well.

The 285s look taller and ride considerably better. I did add wheel spacers to my current truck to widen the stance, but on my 07 Denali they looked perfect. The 33s were wider but I was looking for more sidewall and not so much on the width. MPGs were basically the same. I never tracked it but I could get ~300 miles to a tank.

I have the new upper control arms and Bilstein 5100s already, just need time to install and align.
