Denali Headlight Issues

That cutoff shield is there so you don't blind oncoming traffic. Your mod will result in scattered light and piss people off. Why would you do that? You're instructing him to basically destroy his headlights. As they are, they're worth money if he wants to sell them but if he hacks up his cutoffs they're worthless. Not trying to jump your ass but be careful of what you suggest. If I'm wrong, please let me know but that's the way I see it. Not sure what your mod will accomplish since the stock Denali housings are known to be good projectors.

Red Rocket first I want to clarify something because the picture I took was upside down the part of the shield I got rid of was the bottom reflector. Eliminating that part of the shield has no adverse effect on on coming traffic if aimed correctly so Red Rocket I apologize for the mix up and I respect that again my bad with the mix up bud

Well I guess I am trying to figure out why my low beams suck hind side...I just got this 03 and the first night I drove it I actually got out to see if the low beams were on. So that's the reason I looked for help in a forum like this. I am sure I wasn't the first to ask this, as I wasn't the OP but wasn't sure how to search the archives because of the different titles this could be. I just want to see at night and be safe is all. Again thanks for everyone's input. If we can accomplish this with some type of lamp change I am all for that

I messed up because the section of the shield I kept is the part that protects on coming traffic from the projected light. I should of explained it better so that's my fault bud

No problem @DDenali it makes some sense now. However I wouldn't do anything to the stock Denali housings that can't be reversed since like I said, they are in demand and getting to be rare. I've never heard of anyone modifying them other than retrofitting to HID or LED. They are known to be good projectors so I'm thinking the problem is the lights ( bulbs) themselves or dirty inside.

I definitely agree because that's very unusual for these headlights mine are depos and I'm gonna retrofit some better projectors eventually again my screw up Red Rocket [emoji573]

Well then you shouldn't be telling him to mod his OEM housings! Maybe that's a known Depo mod but like I said the Denali projectors are supposed to be great.

They are OEM housings and i have tried swapping highs and low lamps...both sets are bright in high beam configuration and both sets are dismal in the low beam configuration...thats why i am baffled on this. When i had them out the looked clean.

Did you disassemble the actual projectors? The backs are like tiny mirrors and if they're dirty they won't work well. The reflectors ( high beams) aren't as critical.

No I didn't disassemble, but I will tomorrow and post my findings

Just a thought...on an 03 is there any "daylight" setting or low output relay or module that it could be stuck in for the low beams?

Ive never heard of that. You could swap wires and sockets along with bulbs and turn the high beams on to eliminate that possibility though. Just twist the high beams into the projector side, wires and all. Hit high beams and see if the projectors are brighter like that.

well i took them back out and disassembled...i found the "chrome" reflector material in the cylinder is bubbled and flaking off and laying inside the chamber. So i am assuming that it cant reflect off the black plastic and it cant reflect thru the flakes laying in there. So next move is to order new light assembles like Debo's or???? Does anyone make new OEM parts for the projector part?

Mine set of depo replicate the oem headlights pretty good I got mines from a co worker that bought them from eBay his wife got tboned and totaled the truck. Check eBay or amazon. Just curious do you have any pictures of the reflector

Highly recommend that you take care during your purchase to NOT purchase black tinted lenses and that you get the one with black chrome reflectors instead. Tinted lenses will limit output.

There aren't any with black chrome reflectors that I've seen, the reflectors themselves are always chrome but the area around any reflective area can be black. It still makes them look mainly black. But yes, the smoked lenses will cause decreased output. I have them in mine and needed 55w HID to get good output! Also, as you may have found out, to answer your question, there are no replacement parts available for the housings only new housings. You can still get OEM ones also if desired- $110 each at Rock Auto.

Here's a set of Spyder on EBay that fit the bill. You can take the part # and shop for the best price if you want. They come with halo's but if you don't want them just don't hook them up. I left mine disconnected. You might want some black corner lights too so they match, they're only $20 or so for an off brand.

On another note, I'm glad you figured this t. It was a real mystery to me why a stock Denali projector wasn't bright.
