Hello everyone! I've spent a lot of time on the forums here but just made an account.

My name is Derek, and I've just purchased an 05 Yukon XL and I figured I'd share my experience with you. I got this for a really good deal and after the total rebuild is finished (with various upgrades) I should have a nice ride with very little money tied up in it.

I'll post more pictures as things progress, but I plan on rebuilding with aftermarket black halo projector headlights, black signal lights, black fog lights, black GMC grill badge, cowl hood, smoked taillights, smoked 3rd brake light, white led interior lights, and possibly a cold air intake (since the airbox will need replaced anyway).

I'm looking forward to seeing this thing get brought back to life!

The black lights and grill look great on the Yukon as does the cowl hood. This should be a nice project

Thanks for the reply man, and yes, I also love that look. I have a lot more things planned for it, but unfortunately, I have limited funds to work with at the moment. Everything Listed above should all be put on at the same time, though (+/- Cold air intake).

I also may plastidip the wheels black for the time being...

I bought it smashed like this from a long time family friend who buys/fixes/sells rebuilt cars. I bought this car from him for exactly what he had in it.

When it's all done, I should have less than $4000 in it (including the purchase of the vehicle and all repairs/upgrades).

I'm kinda glad I went this route, as I can rebuilt it how I want it.

Can't wait to see what you do with it.

Here's pictures of what I've done so far. Managed to break down the front end and assess the damage. It's not going to be too bad. A little bit of frame pulling, new radiator, replacing mangled stock intake with CAI, new fan, and a few other little things. What sucks is that I can't pull the frame out until I have all the parts, and the hood is 4-5 days out.

On a side note, I managed to find a matching 3rd row seat... so it's been a pretty good day.

I more than likely wont be able to work on it anymore until the beginning of next week due to work, but for everyone following along I'll be sure and post updates and pictures as it happens.

Just to give everyone an update, I finally finished the body work. The frame has been pulled and all parts lined up.

I gave the Yukon a good wash and discovered that the dirt was hiding several big dents, scratches, and other small damaged spots... So I did what any logical car loving person on a budget would do... I blew it. I decided to just fix everything and repaint it.

All the imperfections have been fixed and the Yukon is currently resting in the garage wearing a nice coat of primer.

If everything stays on schedule I should be done with it sometime next weekend.

The cowl hood looks badass, but since the paint overhaul blew my budget, I may have to put off aftermarket headlights and taillights for now...

Next time I post I'll have pictures.

Def need some updated pics. Progressing very nicely. :buffer:

I wanted to take some when it was all fixed and with primer on it... But my phone was dead and I didn't have the charger with me.

The Yukon is currently at my dad's house (in my hometown) which is about an hour and 45 mins from my house. It would already be done if I didn't work so much, but I still feel like I'm making really good progress considering the amount of work that was needed. Im really hoping I can get back down there this weekend and finish things up, but in the event I can't, it still shouldn't take any longer than 2 weeks from now.

Also, quick question... Since I have completely blown away my budget on paint, I'm going to have to rock the stock wheels for a while. I'm not sure if I just want to leave them alone or plasti dip them black. What do you guys think?

Here's the ones I have:

Me personally as long as the clear coat is good I'd leave em as is.
