Just an FYI, the Isimple Medialinx works. Wasn't having luck getting the chromecast to work so I got an HDMI cable from work and plugged in my lightening to HDMI adapter, then plugged my phone into that. Phone mirroring works. Now I can play Netflix for my little girls. Just need to get a short HDMI cable.

I just seen this after I posted something what's the difference between a regular hdmi to rca and the wire you have pictured.

The is isimple medialinx converts the phone digital signal to analog. Since I wanted to screen mirror content from my phone, this was the least bulky way I could find. Since the isimple cord has a female hdmi plug, I had to get an hdmi cable with male ends so I could plug in my Apple lightening adapter. Hope that helps.

I used the setup in the OP with the RCA to HDMI converter and it was working great. With my Galaxy S5. Recently upgraded to an S7 edge and apparently the S7 no longer supports HDMI out. I'm pretty cheesed because I just installed the video in motion. Anyone get this solution working with an S6/S7/S7 edge?

I have a note 5 and discovered the same thing.. no more HDMI out. I ended up buying EZcast to use miracast which mirrors your phone wireless using wifi. I found it to be troublesome. But they now sell Ezcast wire HDMI dongle which uses usb to connect your phone to the dongle. Eliminates wifi to mirror your phone. I haven't used it as I just used an old Samsung S4 (it has HDMI out) and use it to play videos and Netflix.
I just recent got an Apple TV box and will probably connect it to the SUV and just start using it for Netflix and other stuff.

Can you explain this setup a bit more? I have an older 15 that doesn't have built in Wifi. Only wireless I have access to would be my phone signal. I have the RCA/composite to HDMI converter and HDMI to micro HDMI cable (originally outlined in post 30 http://www.tahoeyukonforum.com/thre...ash-and-rear-screens.63504/page-3#post-812090

Would this still work? Actually considering switching phones now that I have realized this. I love the expandable sd slot and water resistant stuff on the S7, and love the phone overall but this is a major bummer after I put a lot of resources into getting it set up to work.

Watch the ezcast youtube video -- link was on the previous post.

Connect Ezwire to HDMI input, USB cable to your s7 to Ezwire dongle. select USB tether .. follow instruction and your phone will be mirrored. You don't need wireless wifi .. you will use you phone's data.

jl - thanks for the heads up. I ordered the parts (medialinks and EZCast wire dongle). Here's the setup - I can't get it to work. I downloaded the EZCast app to my phone. The instructions are in broken English but seem to say that I want to turn hotspot on in my phone and USB tethering. I do both. I go into the app, select the tether option and "connect" and it just takes me to the default Android screen on my phone where I can turn USB tethering on/off. The blue light on the EZCast is on so I know it's being powered. I never get anything on the car screens, though. Any ideas? I'm attempting to navigate my way through some of the youtubes but nothing is very straightforward.

Follow up. I tested on a projector to see if I could get it to work, it appears I'm failing on two fronts. I'm not even getting the splash screen in my SUV, so something isn't right with either the composite input or the Medialinx. However, now I'm set up on the projector, I followed the same steps on my phone (enabled hotspot and USB tethering, selected the USB tether option from the EZCast app) and you can see in the screen shot (top right) it says my phone is connected - but it's not mirroring. WTF.

Try hooking everthing up on a TV inside your house first and navigate thru the setup menu. The EZcast probably needs to be updated. Use your home wifi to connect to it and perform updates. By the way, make sure you load your phone with the ezcast app. It won't work without it. Make sure your USB adaptor is 1.5A. It should be since I see you have it plugged in extenal plug. I'll pull out my ezcast and go thru it.
This is for the wireless one but it should be the same... Here and here

I was able to get in touch with their tech support via email and the guy has been very responsive. He told me to turn debugging on in Developer options and some other stuff but it's still not working. Here are the steps he told me to follow, along with screen shots. He said he will talk to his engineer and get back with me. He confirmed these were the proper steps.

Here you can see Debugging is enabled.

Here is what the default screen looks like before I hook my phone up:

Here is the screen with my phone connected but Hotspot and USB tethering NOT enabled. You can see the 3 blue dots in the upper right now indicating my phone is now connected.
https://c2.staticflickr.com/8/7697/27423987454_5133d76e5a.jpg
As instructed, I then open the EZCast app first.

I hit the 3rd button down (the one that looks like a "W"), and I get this:
https://c2.staticflickr.com/8/7471/27935363722_eb3ccb4f29.jpg
I press the "Connect" button and I am taken to this screen on the phone:
https://c2.staticflickr.com/8/7539/28037958955_ced9ee3218.jpg
I turn the hotspot "On"
https://c2.staticflickr.com/8/7559/27423879883_73e658ae5f.jpg
I hit the back button on my phone and it returns me to the app:
https://c2.staticflickr.com/8/7792/28003261446_ddb84f12b3.jpg
After the graphic pulses for a few seconds it returns me to this screen where I turn USB tethering on:
https://c2.staticflickr.com/8/7671/27757238520_127e69d845.jpg
This screen from the app automatically pops up:
https://c2.staticflickr.com/8/7431/28038018465_3e97c07071.jpg
I press the "Connect" button, and after a few seconds, this screen comes back up on the phone:
https://c2.staticflickr.com/8/7671/27757238520_127e69d845.jpg
As you can see from the screen shot of the TV, there is no mirroring.

Short answer, no. They are trying to instruct me how to put the dongle in download mode so I can ensure it is updated with the latest firmware, but the instructions don't work.

https://www.iezvu.com/download_tool_wire.php?l=en&u=2

While trying to get it to work I broke the dongle. The guy I'm talking to has been very responsive via email, but pretty sure he's in Hong Kong so I won't hear back from him until tonight. Not sure what's next.

All of that messing around with EZCast/EZWire. I finally got the wireless version (EZCast) connected and mirroring on my TV at home....and I discovered lo and behold, it's not a true mirror. There are "apps" on the EZCast interface you can use to mirror - camera, gallery, videos (on your phone), their own browser, etc. But you are not truly mirroring because you have to stay in their app. I can't exit out of their app and mirror the netflix app or the slingplayer app, which are the only things I would ever want to mirror anyway. There is some "EZ Mirror" setting in the app, but the instructions are less than clear and I don't think the S7 mirrors like past android phones. The settings menu is much different.

So I was messing around searching for ways to get the S7 to mirror and I came upon this article. http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/blog/2016/03/how-to-connect-your-galaxy-s7-s7-edge-to-your-tv/

It said you could use the quick connect on your S7 and connect to a roku or a firestick and mirror. We have a few of each so I tried to Roku. Got it working in 5 minutes.

TL;DR, **** EZ Cast, buy a Roku stick. $40 on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/Roku-3500R-Streaming-Stick/dp/B00INNP5VU

Use the Medialinx or another RCA > HDMI converter. Plug the Roku into the HDMI and the USB from the Roku into one of the vehicle's USB ports. Pull the top menu down on your phone, hit quick connect, tap the roku, tap screen mirror. Done.

FML.

Sorry to hear you couldn't get your ezcast to work. It was pretty straight forward on my part and it does mirror your phone. Old post see the pics . I use to use it to play netflix and youtube (not the ezcast apps). This shit does get pretty fustrating!
But at least you got it going with Roku.

I did see that. I'm not sure if it's the version of the dongle I have, or the fact that I have the S7 or what. The only way I could get it to work was through the EZ Cast app - I'm assuming you had to use the app too? Did you then use "EZ Mirror"? Once I launched the app on my phone I had to press the magnifying glass, and then once it would connect it would take me to this screen on the app, and this is what I was limited to.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/G...JcwOoShKWX2-Slyp8q0atOkQJUcvB_A1NQVC4FYI=h900

The "apps" are not apps on your phone but EZ Cast apps. The browser is their own browser (and netflix.com, etc won't let you watch on a mobile device, they redirect you to the app).

Anyway, yes, frustrating indeed. Happy with the Roku setup, it's much more straightforward.

I use the isimple medialinx (see my setup on page 8) with my iPhone. It gets used everyday when I pick my girls up after work and whenever they are in the Yukon. You just need the correct adapter to plug in the Android phone.

I have the same HDMI-to-composite switch. Works great with an Apple TV in the car. Once you have the Apple TV connected to your wifi hotspot, you can use the Air Play feature on your iPhone to mirror any video feed to the Apple TV. You can't, however, get full mirroring...just video.
That's not true. Google peer to peer AirPlay. I posted a video of the ATV4 running in my truck with the wifi off.

So I got the medialinx connected to the rca's, then I plugged my chromecast in and wirelessly connected it to my tablets hotspot. Everything is working but the picture quality is awful (poor quality and color tone) and the screen is cut on each side about an inch. I also have a MHL adapter and when I use that the picture quality is alot better and screen is cut a little on each side but not as much as it is with chromecast, only problem is its wired.

I prefer to use the chromecast since it's wireless, anyone know why the quality sucks on it and why it's cut on each side?
