Still not exactly replaceable, but there is a actual filter. It's a metal can surrounding the pump.

Do you have a picture of this? I have had 2 ACDelco pumps out of my 08 Silverado and they didn’t have this. There were strainers on the bottom of the pumps inside the plastic bucket. You can’t even see them much less access them. You would have to cut the rails that the springs are mounted on in order to even get to where you can see the strainer. On my 02 Yukon there was an external sock but they did away with that. Here’s both pumps. On the 08 you have to look inside the bucket and still can’t see the strainer. There’s nothing external of the bucket.

One was a 14 one was a 15. Both had it, both were 2500HD 5.3.
I can't say for certain if my 04 does. I will get pictures Saturday, if it does.
Also, I will look around at work tomorrow to see if by chance I kept one of those filters.

Looked at work, did not find the filter can I pulled out on the 14 and 15 trucks.
My 04 has the sock on the outside of the bucket, plus one inside. Could barely see the one inside. (Auto best brand pump)

That's interesting

If by "interesting" you mean "stupid", I agree.

Older thread, I know. But has anyone tried to retrofit one? I'm not in love with the idea of cutting and flaring hard lines under the chassis. But I'm thinking there may be a hose long enough to splice into somewhere. Or maybe I can rob some hard lines out of an NBS at the pull-a-part.
