Winter Wiper Replacement

The time has come for me to replace the OEM wipers on my 21 Yukon and I'm looking for some suggestions. I just did a 12 hour road trip with snow and temps in the 10s the entire time. The OEM wipers were HORRIBLE with freezing up and stuttering across the windshield, it was borderline dangerous out there.

Anyone got any experience with some winter wipers on their truck?

After driving our '21 in blowing snow on Christmas day with temps in the single digits I decided GM has missed on the angle of the windshield defrost vent. I had the heat on 85 blowing the window only, like face melting hot and the bottom of the windshield where the wipers rest simply ices up no matter what. Anything that melts higher up runs down and freezes down there on to the wiper blades. I've never experienced this on any other vehicle and I have owned a lot of different rides.

I cannot personally help you on your '21, but I use Bosch Icon wiper blades on my '07, and they work great for me.

Noticed this as well - a SEVERE flaw. Once those things have ice on them, it will never get off until they actually thaw off.

I'm going to experiment with some Bosch Icons as those are said to be the best non icing wipers. I'll be driving in some nasty stuff on Thursday and I'll keep you posted.

I've used the Bosch wipers on a Silverado and a 19 Yukon and really liked them. If they do ice up, I'd tilt the arm back and use the snow brush to clean off any ice and frozen snow. I live in Michigan, I understand.

Some of the best value replacement wipers you can buy are called Aero on Amazon. They are flex beam wipers like all the top ones, you can buy different length sets, and some even come with free refills. I've used them on multiple vehicles, and they have been very good at a very competitive price. Not happy? Will replace for free, no questions asked...

I just purchased some Bosch Envision wiper blades and have been thoroughly impressed. Smooth, no chatter, and no streaks left behind.

I don't think the icing is a problem with the wiper blades themselves. It's where they live when parked on the windshield down so low that no heat from the defrost can keep the ice from forming on them. They are 2" below the top of the dash, impossible for the defrost to thaw them and there certainly does not appear to be any heating elements in the glass or heated washer nozzles or anything like that. Seems like GM dropped the ball in this department.

I bought these for my Acadia and I loved them. I had recently bought them for my late fathers 2020 Sierra HD Denali but unfortunately didn’t get a chance to install them. Only positive is that they seem to be the same size as the Yukon so when the stock ones start to wear I’ll throw the Bosch on

there really is no easy solution to a engineering design flaw that has been present on GM suv's since 2007 and has proceeded to get worse with each following generation
these knuckleheads just screwed it up period.

if you are considering the bosch or arrow then these trico's are a direct competitor at probably 1/2 the cost
they come with a variety of adapter fittings, so if it say's "not for your vehicle" disregard it.

Yep…it isnt an issue with the wipers persay…im convinced the windshield freezes up because its not getting warm enough.

I hear you. Back in the ‘90s I had a Ford Probe GT and it had a winter setting that would leave the wipers parked a few inches up the windshield so they were right over the defroster vents. Simple and effective.

I guess for wipers I’ll just go GM or Bosch OE so I can avoid using any adapters.

adapters don't make a bit of difference, they fit exactly the same

The gm ones freeze up…pretty bad.

What im getting at…is i dont see why any of them wont…they screwed up as far as heating the lower section of the windshield goes imo. Its not really the wipers fault.

Totally agree. Don't know what the area from the top of the dashboard / instrument panel to the bottom of the windshield is called ...
But it's too bad there are no aftermarket improvements that aim the defroster vent right at and just above the wipers.

I used to have a 2003 Suburban 2500 - and that thing seemed to constantly have problems with wipers. I put the best Bosch wipers on it - and they'd still skip and chatter across the glass. I Rain-X'ed the windshield - still had the same problem. I think I went thru three or four different types/brands of wipers on that thing and finally bit the bullet and bought some of the best PIAA wipers - and those finally solved the problem and cleared the windshield well - and they lasted a LONG time. When I got my 2010 Yukon XL I put PIAA's on it and they've been great on that truck too. At this point - after the BS I went thru on the 2003, I just put PIAA's on everything and call it done.
