Do me a favor.

Drive the truck a while. When you get home, open the gas cap. Does it have that familiar vacuum sucking sound?

Ya, can't tell you that its done that for awhile. I've had the fan going in the garage all night. Everything will be dry when I crawl under there after work today. Unfortunately my wife just filled the tank... I already ordered a tank pump seal, probably need to order a new pump too. I'll see what it looks like when I get home.

just a tip when you drop the tank to replace the pump there is two straps make sure you got an extra pair of hands to hold the fuel tank up when you disconnect the other strap
and dont forget to run it till its on empty

Ok, out in it now. Stopped for dinner and looked underneath when we parked. Fuel all over the tank, almost positive its leaking from the pump. Can't believe the seal failed so severely, I ordered a new seal which came today, and its a real thick o ring. Wouldn't think that would fail but I guess so. Gonna have to get that tank down soon.

Sounds like the issue. Good luck with swapping it out. It's real fun without a lift. :D

TIP: wait till your tank is near empty before you do the job... and wear clothes you don't mind getting some gasoline on.

Well finally got the tank down last night. The top of the fuel pump was very rusty and the two hose fittings were basically rusted away. I actually just twisted them off separating them from the plastic barb connection. Which leaves me with the current problem of trying to remove the remainder of the metal fitting from the connection. Got the pump removed this morning, everything all cleaned up and waiting for an ac delco pump to come in. Meanwhile im soaking the two fitting ends in non toxic rust remover. I've used the stuff before and it completely disolves rust leaving bare metal. I'm hoping that will allow me to pull the rest out. Pretty amazed that the tank looks so clean inside. I siphoned about 15 gallons out last night, god you guys were right about having an empty tank. Too many connections to worry about when the tank weighs 160 lbs.

Ok well it turns out my truck is actually a flex fuel truck. Nothing on it or in it ever lead me to believe this but the pump I picked up had three hose connections coming out of the top whereas mine had two. No one local on a sunday has a flex fuel pump so I'm out of luck til monday-tuesday. At least that gives me time to keep hunting for a Delco pump. Heres some pictures in the meantime.
