I got the idea from a previous post, where someone had their navigation mounted into the cubby in the dash. I got bored and so with a pocketknife and my cousin we improved on the idea and made it completely flush. It is tucked completely behind the dash, for a much cleaner look. Let me know what you think.

Do you have any problems with the unit finding satellites where it is mounted?

No problems finding satellites at all. The only problem is you cant turn it off without unplugging it from the lighter, but hopefully I'll fix that this weekend with a switch to control the power to the lighter.

So, all you did was unplug the onstar stuff and trim the hole so the Nuvi would fit? and you ran the power cord to one of the power outlets under the climate control?

I didnt have the Onstar piece, I just had the blank cubby hole. I ran the wires behind the dash and then just plug into the climate control.

The newer (at least starting on '05) 'hoes have OnStar on the rear view. That's where mine is at.

If I had seen this sooner, I'd have done this rather than get the Pioneer Nav unit.

What's the best way to get the dash off to get to put my Nuvi in there?

Anthony- I don't have pictures of the way I routed the power, but here is how I did it.

-Pull off the dash, it just pulls off.
-Pull out the cubby box and trim the front so that the Nuvi will fit TIGHT behind the dash. This takes a few test fits, but you dont want to cut too much.
-Cut a hole in the bottom of the cubby box to run the power cord through.
-The I ran the power cord from there behind the dash. Below the Climate control, at least on my '01 model is a blank space, that you can just pull the plastic piece off at the top, and it has a hinge at the bottom.
-I plan on moving the power outlet to that space, and splicing the power to that and putting in a switch so that I dont have to keep unplugging the Nuvi to turn it off.

Its pretty simple, like I said, all I used was a pocket knife.

that looks like it was meant to be there. i used that spot for a little monitor that i decontruted from one of those gay rearview mirrors with the tv screen in it, then hooked it to a back up cam. it looked sweet for like a week before i got a ddin with a rear cam input.
eff onstar! i got a cell phone.

Voice sounds just as clear, and thats with it at 50%. But I cant stand the voice to start with.
