I've had my Yukon Denali since 2011, and the water pump has been changed twice since I've owned it - both by mechanics. It's due again, but I have next week off and would like to change it myself this time. I have a couple questions:

1. Does anyone have a preferred brand or part number for replacement water pumps? I saw a vid online that mentioned a new design of water pump for 03-06 Tahoes/Yukons, but it wasn't clear if that was for all engines

2. This is probably opening a can of worms here, but what coolant does everyone use? I had a bad experience with Dexcool (or whatever the orange stuff is called) but that was a pretty long time ago.

Just looking for recommendations. Thanks in advance

How many miles during the 9 year time span when 2 water pumps were replaced? What type of pump was put on when they were changed? New or reman? What coolant was used during that time. Was it ever mixed with Dexcool and green coolant at the same time?

I honestly have no idea on the brand and which coolant.

The truck has 80k more on it now than when I bought it. The first time was at a GMC dealer just after purchase right at 100k. The second time was an indy mechanic almost five years ago, and I just brought it in and told them it was overheating. I was happy afterwards for years both times (although the first time I paid out the a$$ for that water pump and a bunch of other maintenance items). It's getting the weep behind the water pump now and temp gets a little high if idling for a long time, which was the symptom the second time.

I have gone through two pumps as well. First one lasted only four years and was a NAPA brand new. Second pump was New from OReilly I installed about a year ago. Looks like the Delco pumps are almost three times the price. I doubt they would last 12 years. I install them myself so I know it's done right. Buy new bolts than you will have nice clean threads for more accurate tightening. Use GM Dexcool that's what the truck came with when it was new.
