Hey all! Does anyone else here try to use two car seats in the rear of a 2 door?
My wife and I just had our second child, and there are times when I'll need to haul both kids, and they'll both be in car seats for a while. However, the design of the seat belts in my '95 2-door prohibits me from installing more than one car seat.
The two outside seat belts with shoulder belts have the spring-tension belts on both ends. Only the center lap belt has the proper adjusting strap on it. The car seat manufacturers say that I shouldn't install car seats in the spring loaded style seat belts, and I can see why: there is no way to tighten the car seats to the vehicle seats. The only time the seat belts lock is in the time of collision or sudden stopping. So, in my 2-door, the only place allowed to install a car seat is in the middle of the rear seat.
So, has anyone modified the rear seats, seat belts, or installed some sort of latch system to install more than one car seat?
(And no, I don't want to get a 4 door. 90% of my driving in this vehicle is by myself. They didn't make a 4 door diesel, and I don't want a Suburban!!)
Thanks!
Casey
