according to gm bulletins it's done with a (sps) external power supply and a J2534 programmer and the correct (ipc) adapter I mentioned earlier, apparently these are dealer technical tools that they should have in there shop to do the clusters.
although a few gm vehicles are done with a tech2 just not very many and not these trucks there not on the list for a tech2

the typical way for DIY is to reprogram it via serial port on a computer with the chip pulled from the cluster

holy shit 4,100 hours which is the idle counter they must have been living in the car for the heater or A/C

my grandpa had a truck it only had 1100 hours @ 108k miles no he did not drive it 100PH

it's pretty clear the odometer has been rolled back it's not very hard to do with a tech2 and only takes a few min to add thousands in value

it happens a lot

here is a pretty crocked dealer they said it has 81,504 miles
it was rolled back from 205,832 miles

according to the original auction site it was sold at
for $3,650
https://web.archive.org/web/2019021...ls-2011-gray-53l-8-vin-1gnscae04br232444.html

and with a tech2 they rolled it back to
to 81,504 https://web.archive.org/web/2019021...tahoe-ls-suv-17d0df80d4084855aae64a50ef122378

they both have damage in the passenger rear corner so it's more then likely the same one
both have the rare two tone interior as well..]
so more then likely they rolled it back
NO-**...lol!

Out of curiosity I just checked my 2005 Z71 Tahoe. I am the original owner and have performed all service on it myself. Mileage is 162,488 and hours are 1,749.

I say the mileage on that one has definitely been rolled back. Since the trip meter is easily reset, the actual mileage could be much greater than the trip meter shows.

That means your average speed is 92.9 mph! More than likely, the engine hour meter reset to zero and this usually happens when the battery goes dead.

I didn’t know that it reset itself. I have replaced the battery twice so that must have cleared the history, huh.

no its stored in the flash ram aka nvram in the cluster
that is why I was suggesting it was idle hours rather then driving hours (when its in park it starts the hour counter )

just like the crown vics accumulate time in park or neutral

if it has 4,100 hours on it they used it as a "mobile" power source so it would indecate it was used in a commercial environment
if it resets to zero hours you have a memory chip issue in the cluster..

Don’t be too trusting, Denver police just bust a “corner lot” car dealer for rolling back odometers, at least 30 vehicles

I would speculate the hours could vary depending on where you live and therefore how long you let it idle, I live in California and it gets hot as hell if I do not have to shut the truck off I don't I let it idle, mine came from Nevada so I can only assume it was used the same there 4000 hours and 100k miles (roughly).

Turn the key on and the trip time starts running, turn the engine on and the hour meter starts keeping time. My engine hours and trip time between fuelings are near identical. I do not usually leave the key on with the engine off but do idle a lot.

Last year my youngest daughter ran the battery dead by mistake which caused all kinds of haywire including the hour meter resetting. It's keeping time fine now and has started from zero again. It must've reset at some other point as it had 1687 hours with 125K miles. That would suggest an average speed of 74.65 mph! Since October of 2017 her average speed has been just over 27 mph.

I recently bought a 2009 Tahoe and it was showing around 2300 engine hrs, obviously at some point the battery had died and it had reset itself back to 0 since the truck had 196000 miles on it when I bought it. That would be an average of over 85 mph LOL. I have seen several online posts where it was stated that the engine hour counter had reset to 0 after a dead battery. Seems unusual though that the trip meter would go UP and not simply reset to zero if the battery went dead? and I have never seen where anyone claimed that the odometer reset itself to 0 when a battery went dead?
I guess if I owned this particular truck with this strange anomaly that my curiosity would be peaked and I would be trying to find and talk to the previous owners just to satisfy myself that I did not get ripped off by a shady dealership.........

LOL now this sounds like a fun guessing game. I would say a 10% margin plus or minus would be fair?
I will go first, lets all play? HINT THIS IS A 2018 GMC SIERRA. HOW MANY MILES?

That bottom rubber is tore up on my Yukon, reason being some previous owner (short person) always stepped on it there getting in & out, I never put my foot there and eventually I will replace the seal. same goes for the hvac control buttons mine were worn down and I replaced that already some people are rough on things so I think this is subjective, same for my Silverado the fog light button was worn so bad that it had a hole in when I bought it at 5 years old, I replaced the button almost 10 years ago still and it looks like brand new.
