2010 Tahoe LTZ, 5.3, 173k miles. The transmission has slipped a few times under hard acceleration. Happens maybe once monthly. Fails to downshift when it should. Under normal acceleration it shifts fine. The tranny is all original; has been flushed twice (75k and 130k miles). Fluid is full and looks good and smells good. My 16 yr old is driving it and it’s not our main travel car any longer. Should I work towards a repair or wait and see if it get worse?

You did not yet mention changing the ATF a 3rd time. It'd be an opportunity to collect some used ATF for analysis.
You also did not mention if it's a 4L60E (M30 or M32) or 6L80E (MYC), but @ 173,000 miles, either prepare to have yours rebuilt, or start looking for a replacement now so you're ready before it completely schidts itself.

I think 2010 should be the 6L80E...

Fully concur it's a good time to drop the pan, change the filter and fluid.

It's the car for the 16-year-old? Well there goes the idea of driving it easy, LOL.

Wondering if you should wait to see if it gets worse? I think all of us here will pretty much guarantee that it will. Fresh fluid and filter might buy you some more time, as long as it's driven easy. But if I was your 16 year old.... Lol...It wouldn't last me 2 weeks. And of course I would insist to my father that I was driving it easy :)

You are over the expected life of your transmission, and you've actually done better than many truck owners.

Let's ask @NickTransmissions , our resident transmission expert, weigh in with his thoughts and suggestions.

Oh man ... I would run away from anywhere that installs Jasper transmissions. Run very fast. I say find a reputable rebuilder that will give you a good warranty and has a lot of positive reviews. Or, get one from GM along with the 3-year warranty.
