Hi all,
2017 Tahoe premier 82500 miles. 5.3…6 speed
My question is what can I do to
Increase the longevity of my
Transmission and torque converter. This is the last truck
For this old man and I need
It to last along time
By the way afm off with a range
Module. Thanks in advance for
Any feedback/advice
Don’t really see a fluid/filter
In service records

I am hoping for longevity like you. I have had the Range disabler on for the last 4 years and a Mishimoto Transmission cooler for about the same amount of time since I purchased my 2016 Yukon in 2020 with 50,000 miles. The Mishimoto is pricier than most transmission coolers but you'll be hard pressed to find a more professional and thorough installation kit. My trans temp has not exceeded 170 degrees and that is towing a boat in Arizona in 110 degree weather. Also make sure your transmission fluid thermostat is either upgraded to the cooler one or just flip the internal pill in the existing one. I also purchased a transmission pan with a drain bolt for easy servicing. The cooler and cleaner you keep the trans the less likely problems will arise. Good luck.

You already disabled V4 mode, congratulations.
Change your ATF at least as often as the SEVERE SERVICE schedule suggests.
Address the ATF cooling situation as suggested by Rygrego.

I just posted my experience on my 2011 GMC Denali 6.2 Mine went 203,000 miles before I sold it a couple of months ago. For its entire life I used Amsoil Signature 5/30 oil and filters. Oil changed at 10,000 mile intervals, filters at 5,000 miles. ZERO oil usage between changes. Ran whatever transmission fluid the factory and the dealer put in it. I would put Amsoil AT fluid in it if I had to do it again. I did a major service (coolant, belts, hoses, etc. under hood at 100,000 miles. Never had to repair anything under the hood, including the transmission/torque converter, except for the first two driver side exhaust manifold bolts. Just sold it two months ago. If I had kept it another 100,000 mile service was due.

I never unhooked the V4/V8. I have no clue how that changes anything with the mechanicals if they don't get ripped out, which is a major operation.

Your 5.3 and 6 speed should do the same except your 5.3 should not break bolts.

182K did the transmission thermostat delete. and now the tranny fluid circulates all the time without
the factory check valve/spring. temps went from 190 down to 140.

184K
Had TCU flashed for lockup in 5 & 6.

Had ecu flashed for DOD deactivation.

188K
replaced TC with LUK 0017 this weekend. 3 year warranty..carparts.com

so far, smooth, no slip, no shudder.

At 70K miles on my 2017 I found out about these problems from a friend, and I did the following in this order with good luck so far:
1. Installed the Superior Sure cool thermostat bypass.
2. Changed the transmission fluid and internal filter.
3. Replaced the transmission pan when I did the filter / fluid to install one with a drain plug for future changeouts.
4. Installed a derale external spin on filter using a Fram endurance spin on filter to get down to 20 microns. This is inline before the fluid returns to the transmission. Hopefully it would catch any major trash if the TC starts to go.
5. Used HP Tuners to remove the slip, disable AFM, and disable the TCC from locking before 5th gear.

On Going:

Ever 6K miles (or every other oil change), I drain and replace 5 quarts of transmission fluid.

So far so good.

I’ve changed the trans oil/filter twice in the last 4 years on my 17 Premier. Mine has 133,000 miles on it. Even doing this my tc failed last week and put enough metal filings in the transmission that I need to replace it as well.
I now think it’s not if but when the tc/transmission will fail
