How many of you tow with the stock bumper? I was needing to move some stuff and though about renting an enclosed trailor from uhaul. I dont have a tow package though.. Can I just wire up the harness throw on a ball and go?

Any advice would be great. thanks

how heavy is this load going to be? Did you crawl up under the truck to see if there wasn't a loom full of wires tucked into the frame rail?

I did this with a small trailer from uhaul....had no choice, had to buy a harness from them and wire it up though. The bumper has a rating of 2klbs I think, you can look it up in your manual.

I've towed so much on bumpers that I shouldn't have...
Ford 8N Tractors with water filled tires (~300lbs extra per, so about 3500 total + the attachment + trailer weight), Massey Ferguson tractors, car trailer with a full size truck on it...
But that was on 70s Chevys and 80's dodges, when bumpers were still strong as hell.

I know which U-haul trailer you are thinking of, you won't have any problems. My dad towed one with a class II on a 91 caprice.

Id just get a hitch to be safe. Its worth it in the long wrong. If you want to sell it in the future, it will be the only thing killing you. Ive seen so many nice trucks for sale without hitches.

rangers, s10s etc have a tongue weight rating of 200 lbs and max trailer weight rating of 2000. most full size truck i have seen have a max tongue weight of 500lbs and 5000k lbs trailer weight. and most have it printed on the bumper but not my tahoe. i towed an old 20' ranger bass boat with the bumper on my old ranger pickup fwiw.

I put a hitch on mine since some boards have mentioned problems with the factory hitches (cracking, failing, etc). Took about 20 minutes to install. Piece of cake.
