Towing capacity comparison to nbs

I just totalled my nose 2004 suburban lt and am looking at upgrading to a nnbs suburban or Tahoe. Everything I've read says that the standard ls and lt 4x4 is only 5000lbs towing capacity? Is that correct? I think my 2004 5.3l was like 7000lbs. Why the drop in the newer models?

NNBS 1500 Suburban towing capacity for the 2007-2014 model years is 7100 lbs for a 4x4 with the 3.43 rear end and varies downward without the towing/HD cooling packages and the 3.08 rear end, and upward with 2WD. Chances are you're looking at the numbers for the 3.08 rear end and perhaps without HD cooling. I tow a 7500 lb camper with a 2012 Yukon XL Denali and it does fine, but I've also made some mods to it for cooling and a billet TC for the transmission.

3.08 Rear was available for GMT900. Non-towing "gas mileage" ratio. I call it the soccer mom ratio.

Suburbans/Yukon XLs will be much more likely to have the better ratios, as well as the extra coolers.
