Towing Capacity - 2016 SLE with V-5 Receiver

Hello,

We just purchased a used 2016 SLE with the Max Trailering Package (NHT) and a GM V-5 10,000lb receiver. I can’t find a 10K towing option in the literature and just wondering if this is an aftermarket modification.

I would look at the door jam and the sticker that shows GVRW. The tow hitch should have “buffer” built into it as the max towing capacity can likely exert MORE than max tongue weight in certain scenarios.

Thanks, my limit from the owners manual is 8,200 with the 3.42 Axle, what has me confused is the 10,000 limit on the receiver - trying to figure out if the V-5 receiver was an additional option or an aftermarket modification?

No, that is 100% stock but is likely part of the max tow package. The 8,200 sounds right on the money for max towing and there are a lot of great threads that talk about towing. Many suggest adding coolers and other items if you plan to tow heavy and often.
Here is a great video explaining how max towing can actually exceed certain parameters. This is likely why the beefy tow hitch is included.

That’s the standard hitch limit on these trucks, but that has nothing to do do with the rated tow capacity of the vehicle, which is limited by other factors such as engine cooling and transmission fluid cooling capacity, etc.

That's why it says on that sticker "Tow vehicle maximum trailer rating may be less"

At least it's the proper size hitch. They used to come with ones that were rated less then the max tow rating.
