hey all, my truck has the tow/haul button on the shifter, and i was pulling my parents trailer this weekend, so i figured i'd test it out, however, when i pressed the button, nothing happened... no dash light, no real indication that anything had changed... how would i verify that it's actually working and maybe just the dash light is burned out? what's it supposed to do?

it should show a trailer looking icon on your dash when you have tow mode on.

do you have access to a scan tool? you could hook up a scan tool and cycle the switch to see if anything happens.

My Yukon did the same thing and it ended up being the button in the end of the shifter, they say the wires brake at the pivot point, so check that out.

There is an orange wire that is in the steering column that with years of the tilt wheel moving about and the shifter, the wire pinches and breaks. If you take the bottom of the column off, you will see the orange wire, it has 2 wires in it and usually both of them break.

I tried to find a write up on another forum but couldn't. If I find it, I'll post it.

A way of checking if it is working is compare how the truck shifts when the tow mode is on and then off, when it is on it will want to stay in the gear it is in longer and more deliberately compared to when it is off, when it is off it will wanna change gears more freely and not as high RPM's, kinda hard to explain instead of showing in person, try them both there should be a shifting difference!

It's different for sure, just that the RPM's go higher before shifting, shifting will be more predictable, and it will want to hold the gear longer before shifting when it is on, it's more obvious when towing a trailer for sure!

But do what was mentioned before, check the wiring, it might be the problem!
