I let the body shop paint them and install them why they had the truck but today I noticed they did not use the OEM clips that hold the factory caps in the slots. Were they supposed to be used? My caps seem awfully loose and if they were not screwed at the corners they could probably be removed in seconds.

The instructions don't say anything about using the factory clips but it makes sense to use them to help secure them in the factory slots.

I would suggest using the clips in addition to the screws.

I didn't use the clips with mine, didn't look like they would fit anyways. I put a few dabs of silicone caulk on the tabs to deal with the bit of movement with them. I did install the two screws supplied along the inside edges and put some silicone around the hole where the factory clip was to keep moisture out.

How did the silicone work, I need to try something i can pull them back far enough to see the tabs.

Also they did use to two screws one in the factory location and one at the lower corner.

post pics bro
Snatched some pics this morning. I modified the screw hole at the top so I can push them i more but looking at the old one's there is no clips to put into the slots and the SS slots are smaller so they allow some movement.

Normal position

here is how far I can pull them back

The factory slot that is probably to large for a clip to help secure the caps

after the tweaking they seem to a bit harder to pull back so hopefully I don't run into any problems. Its already been through 2 washes and haven't had a problem yet.

The silicone worked good, I used painters tape to hold them in position until the caulk dried. I also used both screws.

I had the same problem, I used winshield silicon and some masking tape, worked out pretty good.
