In my quest to build the toughest, most capable, most luxurious '07 Yukon XL on the planet I have reached the next chapter.. Beefy Drivetain.
As some of you may know, there is no available locker for the front differential. My understanding is that the case isn't strong enough to take it.
And a 2500/3500 differential mounts completely different, but a locker is available
In 2012 to 2015 they changed the case to the same mounting style as the 1/2 tons. With the exception of an ear for a bushing that can be cut off. My understanding is that the mounting holes are just slightly further apart, but not so far that you can't get the bolts started and suck it up in to place thanks to the rubber bushings.
I know the CV's will be incompatible. They won't be anyways because I'm installing Dirt Kings 12" long travel kit. RCV will whip me up some custom shafts in exchange for a bushel basket full of money.
In the past I relentlessly prowled the internet for confirmation that this swap is possible but only found whispers of some guy that had actually done it.. no hard proof.
So, before I blaze another uncharted path on this project.. can anyone confirm that it's possible?
I am also swapping in the rear diff from a two wheel drive Escalade, 14 bolt semi floater.
Both will be geared 4.88 for 37" tires.
Thanks in advance for any light that can be shed on this subject.
